Default this worth the money?

local guy is selling a broken in, still in car running short block (guess he pulls it when u buy it) ls1 with Wiesco inverted dome pistons and RPM H-beam connecting rods with stock crank, says its 8.6:1 CR with stock ls1 heads

he only wants $1400 for it, selling cause he ran out of funds for his turbo build, im looking to go turbo (85% there) but wasnt really planning on any engine mods or swaps for awhile, is this worth grabbing for $1400 and then holding on to it and throwing an EPP blower cam in it and a set of 243s possibly and installing in the near ish future when $$ is better?

how would 8.6:1 (i guess 9:1 CR if i use 243s (ls6 heads) be for a DD? and how much boost could i run safely and about how much power? would use ARP studs for heads and im running a BBK intake and 80mm TB

any input appreciated

I would do it if you know who built it. Rods and pistons rings can cost and more than that

If its actually 8.6:1 with forged h-beams, I wouldnt be afraid to throw 22-25psi to it with supporting mods. The hp numbers will be in your turbo selection/tune.

Find the part number of the pistons, take a look, its in a book, reading rainbow. Compression ratio is determined by piston, head gasket and combustion chamber size.

Im 8.5:1 and id feel fine with 93+meth and 26lbs just gotta watch the timing. It wont be the most responsive down low with that compression but street driving is no issue.

I say go for it if the CR is to low for your comfort on a street car you can always mill the heads to bump it back up so it won't be as sluggish off boost. But granted you'll need to run less boost. It's all about your goals and how you want the car to drive. But I say go for it it's a good buy

Run it, if your worried about response on the street pick up a set of ON3TURBO twins fab it up and it will respond just fine. 2 of these turbos will support 1000+RWHP and can be had for the cost of the larger single unit. Sure you have to run two gates but the 38mm gates are pretty cheap from tial or turbosmart and are good.

I just wouldn't give him the money until I saw the short block and was able to see the bores and pistons.
