It'd be nice if you could add the torque numbers too, i know alot of peeps dont concern themselves to much with it, but the amount of torque some of these "little" motors put out, is damn impressive sometimes, lol

Torque is irrelevant honestly, like said before, it's a measurement of hp vs rpm.

Skinnies number for example. Not to mention the peak torque number is at a rpm that most cars don't see during a pass

Expect to hear from the good people at the ACLU with regards to this thread. This is bold face discrimination! 4.8's, 5.7's, 6.0's, 6.2's and 7.0's UNITE for the class action lawsuits!

That is all.

HP is a calculated number. Torque is measured by the dyno. typically HP=TORQUE X RPM / 5252

Was thinking the same, lol. Hp is derived from torque, not the other way around.

It's the same thing either way, u only need one to find the other, but a dyno measures hp.

Hp is getting X amount of work done over X amount of time.

In this case, accelerating the rollers from x speed to x speed in x amount of time.

I've never heard of this. The only hp measurement I've ever seen was hp=tq*rpm/5252

Ok so Torque is actually measured by it's force. HP is still a calculation no matter which way you look at it

Torque: A twisting or turning force. Typically measured in pound-feet (lb-ft) or newton-meters (N·m). Note that torque is NOT work, even though it is measured in the same units. The difference is that the force in torque is not in the same direction as the distance (it is perpendicular), so it does not count as work. Notice also that lb-ft is used instead of ft-lb; engineers do this as a convenient way to quickly tell the difference between a torque and work measurement.

Horsepower: A measurement for power that is commonly used in the U.S., abbreviated as "hp". James Watt invented this unit after observing that a horse could lift at a rate of about 550 foot-pounds per second for about an 8-hour shift.

Deriving the Relationship

To be clear, torque is a force that causes something to rotate. That something is usually circular, but it doesn't have to be. The distance part of torque is also called a lever-arm (or moment arm). The lever-arm acts to multiply the force being exerted. Think of opening a door, if you try pushing near the hinge, it takes a lot more force than pushing form near the handle. The distance from where you push to the hinge is the length of the lever-arm. Again, don't confuse torque with work. Think of torque as an instantaneous push on the door, where as work would be pushing the door over a distance.

Horsepower is how quickly you can apply torque over a given distance. Watt's definition says that 1 hp = 550 ft-lb/s.

So if Torque by definition is a "twisting force", how is torque irrelevant when it comes to cars? Isn't the only thing cars do is twist or turn?

It went 2 tenths quicker in 1/8th once we got the car out of the chassis shop on a SOFT pass and 9mph down. Next pass it went thru the 60ft a lot quicker, but broke the glide few hundred feet out, no reason it shouldn't have went a 8.3 or quicker on that pass. Sadly our track closed so I didn't get to make a full pass, hell it only went 1.44 60ft on the 8.65 pass, lol. I've sold that car to a friend, but got another one to put together if someone beats the record, I really don't see why someone can't easily take it in a mustang or other well setup car. In a real chassis(not a street car cheapo setup like my rx7 was) I don't see why someone can't knock on 7's honestly, in our other cars we've had about 100rwhp more than I was making.
