Default TWIN sizing 9s to 8s ADVICE!!!!!!

hi all,

looking for advice from turbo techs or knowledge from those that have done this.

Car runs low 9s forged 346, Glide, 3600 w/trans. Turbos are -
A/R 70, .86 brand unknown 20psi....

looking to TRY and break into 8's pass with this combo "except with larger turbos".
Looking at pushing boost up and testing limits with 346, and wanting a more effecient turbo combo in doing so;

I will be moving into 390 cubes next season wanting to use same turbos, 25+ psi; 1200hp.

will-
Twin precision 6766
Twin 76?
TwinGT35?
Comp??

dealings with companies "pricing/service" also appreciated.

cheers
Paul

I would go with a S366 with the 73mm turbine wheel and .91 AR housing or you could step up to a S400SX-65 with the 83mm turbine wheel and a .90 AR housing.

The S366's will work better with your current cubic inches for sure and would also work with the 390, but the S400SX-65's will work better with the 390 and leave you more room to work with. The 366's are rated at 820 as are the S465's but the 465's have a bigger turbine which will allow you to utilize more of the CFM the compressor wheel is capable of flowing. I can get you either of those turbo's.

I wouldn't even hesitate to use a S400SX-67 but still utilizing the 83mm turbine wheel. That 83mm turbine will be perfect for your 390 and I still wouldn't be afraid of that wheel with a 347 it will just take a little more timing down low on the foot brake to get them spooled and maybe a slight converter tweak. If you have the ability to advance your camshafts ICL you may also want to do that.

What are your current cam shaft specifications?

are you running the current turbo's closed wastegate? or what is the symptom leading to the need to replace?

Hard to beat the precision 67's, will be enough for WELL over 1200rwhp turned up and still spool great.

Great turbo's and as skinnies said will make plenty of power. I do prefer the Borg unit's slightly though mainly for their larger turbine side which will help with the 390 cubes utilize all the compressor side has to offer and they are cheaper. I am a dealer for both though FWIW.

I think the white pinto on drag week ran these same precision turbo's and went 7.9x the other day at well over 170mph. I also think the car went 5.00 to the 1/8th with a 125 shot of nitrous with those turbo's.

Pinto is perfect example, nothing exotic in that setup, lots of off the shelf parts and in a ~3200lb car.

thanks guys.

happy to look at the BW turbos, although i have never used them nor familiar with them. I like the idea of the PT67 and precision turbos in general. I will have to do some research on the BW turbos.

I prefer the larger side due to growth with my car and progressive cui i will be running.

Wastegates "unsure of term closed MOUSE" and the move is just away from some GTDW turbos from LS1Turbos.com. These where spec'ed for their drag car in which i now own; hence they may be okay i am just uncertian!

I am as per most budget driven for my drag car so BW may be a better option. I was looking at some on here for sale precision from JJ Turbo i think is the user name, still chatting with him PT6766 i believe but a .68......but billet wheel and at $1400; sounds fair? the .68 is my stumbling block thou!!!

Cam is 224 comp cam.

can spec for me some turbos and PM options and cost....

Also no comments on garret nor turbonetics?

Remember i have transbrake and prefer slight lag and or inefficiencies with the 347 cui, as i want to real ramp up boost on the 390 and dont want that falling over.

cheers

Pretty much nailed it

I am a big fan of the BW units personally.

I honestly think you will be the best off with the S400SX-67's then. The 83mm turbine will really let you run the maximum amount of boost that the 67mm compressor wheel is capable of producing without running into excessive back pressure.

If you'd like to discuss pricing options you can shoot me a PM, e-mail or give the shop a call.

I'd really also like to spec you out a custom cam for this set-up as I could improve upon your current profile a lot. Hell, even one of my off the shelf turbo grinds would be an upgrade.

Let me know!
