Default Comp vs Precision

Hey guys, trying hard to make a decision on turbo(s) for my forged 370 build. Leaning toward twins for that snappy, instantaneous throttle response, but a single is still on the table if it can match the same performance. Street car only, so I don't care about high-RPM top end. My build is a forged 370, 9.8cr, stock 317s, ls6 intake &TB, 4l80e. Goal maybe 700-750rwhp. I'll get a custom cam ground for whatever turbo & converter I pick.

So...sticking to a $1500 price range, I've narrowed down to the following. What do you think?

Twins
-------------------
$650/ea
Precision 6076
59mm compressor
65mm turbine
T4 Vband .58/.68./81/.96 a/r

$575/ea
Comp CT3-6065
60mm compressor
65mm turbine
T3 .36/.48/.63/.82 A/R with 4 bolt discharge
T4 Tangential .58/.68/.81 A/R with 3" V-Band

$800/ea
Comp CT3-6262 Billet
62mm billet compressor
62mm turbine
T3 .36/.48/.63/.82 A/R with 4 bolt discharge
T3 .63/.82 A/R with 3" V-Band discharge
T4 Tangential .58 A/R with 3" V-Band discharge

Single
------------------
$1575
Comp 7879 (ceramic BB)
78mm billet compressor
79mm turbine
.58/.68/.70/.81/.84/.96/1.15/1.32

$1450
Precision 7675
76mm billet compressor
75mm turbine
T4 Tangential .81/.96 A/R with 3 5/8" V-Band discharge

Oh and this is just a weekend toy, probably 2K miles a year. So I probably don't need the best of the best. Just something reliable for a reasonable price. Thanks

Comp 6065 those are GREAT turbos and make good power, reliable and cheap. lots of guys using the 6x65 on supras and 4-cyl cars
Single out of those 2 I would pick the PTE7675 and hope you get a good one
From comp you can get a custom turbo I would get a TBB billet 7888 with a 1.32 housing in the with a CT43 compressor cover. This is a CT5 turbo with the smaller compressor, and the 74+mm wheels HAVE TO HAVE more than the 79 turbine or they dont work for **** on a 350+ci motor

Dude...that is great, detailed info. Thanks!! So you think those 6065s are big enough to hit my hp goal? I'm sure they'd spool instantly on a .68 or even .82?

I'd go with a BW S482 Billet turbo. Check these out. This turbo will blow both of those away.

The 83mm turbine you can get a in a T4 house. This is the exact same turbo I just ordered. The 96mm Turbine has to be a T6

That thing is a beast man! I'm sure those would make huge power, but what about my snappy, low end throttle response? Thats more what I'm after..

the comp 6065 with a .82 housing should make 850whp easy in a twin setup, thats only 425whp each and that will be no issue, most of the 4cyl guys are making a solid 500whp with these

Regarding the post above there is no way I would run bigger than the 72mm standard BW compressor wheel with the 83mm turbine, none the less the billet 82mm wheel. The billet wheel needs a minimun of the 92mm turbine and ideally the 96mm turbine in a v8 application, or backpressure will be through the roof

Remember the BW units rate the turbine wheel size differently and they seem bigger than they are comparing to other PT units etc.

Hey man, as soon as I make a decision here I'll be calling you for a cam. Those twin comps are sounding pretty good!

On a 370CI LS motor with the 83mm turbine in a T4. It would spool almost instantly. I have a little 281CI 4.6L mod motor and I don't think I will have any issue spooling this turbo when I lay my foot in it. But I do have a TH400 auto. I had a GT4276 and It would spool instantly when I hit it and it has the same turbine as this new turbo and just about same AR housing. But that is a Cast 76mm and the new turbo will be a billet 82mm

That really depends on how big the motor is. For a 370CI I would say yes the 96mm wheel. But this turbo has made 1139rwhp on a 4.6L mod motor with the 83mm wheel thru a Power Glide. Thats why I'm getting the 83mm wheel on my car. Its a small motor and it should work fine. On a bigger motor I would get the larger wheel.

You can go with the new Billet 83 that will outpower that 82 and lots cheaper. Also you can go with the new 87 or 92mm LDP turbine wheels and both can be had with a T4 flange as well. So your not stuck with the T6 flange.

How much is the billet 83 with the 87 turbine in a T4 with race cover? PM is you need to.

This is a serious question, and im curious... Has anyone actually had "GOOD" results with a comp turbo yet in the larger displacement world? Seems ive read two threads on here where the user has not had any good luck? None where they have...

I take that back, one thread where it did ok in a rear mount app....

i run the tc78. i make 780-800hp on 19.8lbs. yes the back pressure is an issue if you want more power, but i beat this thing RAG GED on this setup with no issue, i run an off the shelf comp turbo cam. its cheap. and when your ready to upgrade, you can just throw it a way and get serious. i have a 1.15 a/r on a 4 inch down pipe. i dont recomend comp, do your own research on the exhaust wheel before you go comp.

There's a user here named Code4. Says he's had good luck with them on a 348.

Are you referring to the standard cast-wheel, journal-bearing 6065 here? What are your thoughts on the billet wheel and ball bearings....is all that really necessary? thx

cast regular cheap turbos, I dont think it would be worth spending twice as much on your setup going billet or ball bearing

Comp Turbo has treated me VERY well. They have always answered the phone & spent as much time as needed talking without making me feel rushed.

I see guys that don't sell comp turbos bashing them & get tired of it. I had a TC 76 before & you want to talk about back pressure OMG but no one was bashing them.

these little small frame turbos will only do so much, need bigger, go bigger.

I had a catastrophic failure of my own doing & they still fixed it at no cost. Then after it was done I changed my mind & wanted twins. They hooked me up even trade, I couldn't believe it.
