How about a tc 78 on a 4.8 in a truck. Would your stage one turbo cam be too much for this? How about the idle quality I would like it to sound lopey. Thanks in advance

Martin, I need a cam! Here's what I've got: 2007 LS2, 4" stroke 406, 8.5:1 (est) 32cc dish, 231 casting heads (cathedral port) comp cams beehive springs, twin precision turbo 6265's .82ar, ready to turn up the boost to 21psi and install a meth kit. I run a T56, it's not a daily driver, I'm using inverted C6 exhaust manifolds, a performance products aluminum intake, id1000 injectors, 3" full exhaust. Hoping to get close to the 1000hp range. Which cam do you suggest?

The Stage 1 turbo camshaft in terms of performance would be a perfect match for your set-up. That turbine wheel is perfect for a 4.8 IMO, but if you would like a lopier idle you'll need a camshaft profile with more valve overlap.

What is the approximate weight of the truck, and the transmission/stall converter used? Also rear gear and mileage driven per year. Thanks!

What an AWESOME set-up! I'd love to do a cam for this bad ride of yours!!!

Here is the profile I would recommend for your motor and the information you have given me:

237/247 .610"/.632" 116+5

This camshaft has 10 degrees of overlap @.050" lobe lift so it is not aggressive IMO by any means. It will let you know that there is a camshaft installed for sure, but nothing extreme or even moderate IMO.

IMO when you have twins such as the units you have installed, the power curve that they produce on such high boost is very similar to a positive displacement blower. Now, the instantaneous torque of a PD blower can really never be re-created, but with such small turbines and .AR housings the drive pressure created early in the RPM range will create boost very quickly. This brings on massive amounts of torque early that I feel needs to be stretched out further into the rpm range. This creates a very broad power band when done in such a manner as I do with my twin turbo camshafts.

I love the engine bay and how you have the hot side arrangement done, very nice set-up you have there!

Thanks for the quick response! I'd like you to do a cam for me! One question is will my redline be increased? In anycase I do want to order a cam and I guess the 3 bolt conversion kit (mine is 1 bolt LS2), let me know how I can do that.

Here's a few more pics of the hot side for you.

Your waste gate placement is perfect!!! Very nice! Yes it will be increased slightly over your current camshaft. I would expect a 6200-6400 horsepower peak with a shift point of 6500-6700 being optimal.

I love your set-up!

Hello martin! How bout a cam for me, I have a 99 trans am automatic, ls1 stock long block with a D1sc looking to install a cam, recently installed LT's, ORY and Corsa exhaust, has a yank ss3600 stall and racetronix fuel pump with hotwire kit, stock 10 bolt with 3:23 gears and an ls6 intake with fast fuel rails and 60# injectors. This is not a daily driver, just a weekend fun car. What do ya think would best be suited for my application?

What size pulley and boost are you expecting? Stock balancer? What size headers 1.75" or 1.875"?

Call the shop on Monday 336-719-0599 and ask for me if I don't answer the phone.

Turbo's are great!
I have 1.75" headers, ATI balancer and a 4.25" blower pulley about 9# of boost.

I would run this cam:
230/236 .609"/.578" 115+5

This is our LS2 Street Heat Stage 2 Blower camshaft. Mild enough to drive around town as a DD, but aggressive enough to make great power. I don't like to use a ton of overlap with my smaller centrifugal blower cams as I feel over-scavenging a blower motor is much easier to do than any other motor.

Just wondering the reason for the extra +5 advance grind? Is that something to do with possibly the torque?

It is so that the profile meets the valve events that I want. Aligning the intake valve closing event with the exhaust valve opening event so that the exhaust port has ample time to evacuate the cylinder at higher rpm's and so that the intake charge does not become contaminated with exhaust gas. Also if spent exhaust gas occupies space in the cylinder on the intake stroke, it won't allow a new fresh air/fuel charge to occupy that space because it is still present. This will cause a drop in power especially after torque and horsepower peaks.

It also has to do with where overlap occurs and its relation with top dead center. My cams that I do for smaller centrifugal blowers and small positive displacement blowers close the exhaust valve right at top dead center, or before top dead center. This helps to not over scavenge the intake runner. I also feel it allows the intake valve opening event to become more efficient as the exhaust valve is closed during the meat of the time the cylinder is being filled.

BTW anyone know who this is? Found this in Youtube earlier...apparently it has one of our turbo cams.

Martin, the video you posted is Ethan Rutter's car. He lives in Kansas.

You and I have talked cams before, and I really want to try something different, but I may be upgrading the kit/turbo next year which will probably require a different camshaft anyway.

You're correct in your assumption as I always if possible match my turbo cams to the current turbo being used. I find it imperative to do so for the most optimal combination of parts.

Wanted to share latest idle clip. If the weathers good, I'd like to get some more track time in this weekend. So far Martin the bump stick is a great match to my setup man, thx again!

Rob! This is what we really want to see! Not a damn idle clip LOL!!!

She's moving out for sure on low boost! What was the 4.8's fastest 1/8th mile pass?
