Talking Some Progress.

Ok, little update on build/swap. I have all the parts back and long block is all together now. Need to get it in the car now so I can start fabbing stuff up. I leave for Cozumel a week today and get back 3/19 so I foresee alot happening once I get back.

Few pics below.

More part showing up each day. TB below just came in, love the craftsmenship of Nick Williams. We had to make some adjustments to the pass side manifold because after wrapped, it was touching the new valvecovers so a little cutting and welding had to be done. Added some bungs to the bottom side of the merge for EGT and back pressure sensors. I got the PTC Conveter ordered through Dusty on Saturday, so that will be on its way shortly. Couple little odds and ends to do then the the motor should be ready to drop in soon.

The car does still have lic plate/reg/insur so I guess I could drive it still on the street (full interior still in place, power windows, so on), I did some last year but going to methanol this year may end that. There's not to many gas stations that you can fill up with Methanol (LOL) around here, so it will most likey see track time only now.

102mm NW cable TB

New valvecovers

The turbo will not clear the hood (much larger diameter then the old 88mm turbo) in this location so I guess I'm going to go ahead and convert to a forward facing setup with the turbo inlet just behind the grill.

More updates soon.

LOL, me too. In all honesty, the week in Cozumel and a few other things have set me back, but I think we are back on track. The Moran 500lb injectors are the only real variable at this point, still on the "Build List". Hopefully its only another week or two for them. I have my 80lb injectors from last year still I plan on using on gas to get the engine running and break the cam in with those. There after I'm hoping the MRE's show up ... fingers crossed.

Thanks man. Little different setup than last year's stock long block LQ4, lol!

Since I'm using Methanol for fuel I really don't need one but wanted to be safe if I needed to cool it down faster for some reason. I will get some pics but I used a small aluminum Honda Civic Radiator with 12AN fitting welded on the inlet/outlet. I will be using a Jegs remote water pump if I need to circulate the water (most likely will be used more to help heat the coolant system*).

* The engine oil & water will be brought to 160* before it is started to help it opperate better on methanol while not running a ton of methanol thought the engine just to get it up to temp (depositing more methanol in the oil). Also as a result of this pre-heating, I should have less methanol in my oil. It will have two oil pan pad heaters on the pan (120volt) to heeat the oil. There will also be two Jegs 600w 3/4npt coolant heaters in the water system to bring everything up to temp. Another trick is to "boil" the methanol out of the oil using the heating pads on the oil pan. Methanol turns to a vapor at 148.4* F. Crack the crankcase vents loose and let it "cook" the methanol out. It ill not remove it all but it helps remove some.

The pn: for the ATI damper is 917302 (f-body w/ no AC)

Here is a few pics of the radiator. Welded 12AN inlet/outlet male bungs on it and also a 4an in the top on the left side for the return from the steam ports in the four corners of the heads. The radiator will actually mount inline with the car so it will get no air flow unless the fan is on.

Well we fixed the only screw up that GM made on the LsX block, nothing a rattle can can't fix. I can hear the die hard GM guys shriek now. That powder coating makes for a nice primer, LOL! Now its ready to drop in.

Thanks. To be honest it's really going to depend on the what the car can handle and what the AMS 1000 is set to. Everything in the combo was designed around 1400 to 1500whp. I know the car in its current state (needs susp done but will have to wait $$$) would never handle that, 1000whp would be maybe doable if power was brought on slowly. I guess I really won't now for sure till we do some testing but low 9's (maybe I'm way off but I always guess slow) I hope would be possible with the 28x10.5s and old stockish susp. I ran last years combo in my sig at a 6psi launch and 6psi the full pass and ran 11.10@122 (10.2's @ 133 on 15psi). I'm going to run that same pass with the new combo to be how much difference there is.

Plan is to get the car running, idling, and spooling on the break and take it to the dyno. Get it close and take it to the track for some shakedown runs.

Well I'm pretty sure the power will be there for sure, maybe I should have worded that differently in my previous post. I'm not sure what the car will handle in its current state. If it will handle 1000whp (guessing somewhwere near 15-16psi), then bringing the power on slowly (say 6 to 8 psi launch and ramp up to 15psi over 3 to 4 sec) i think it should net a low 9's, maybe a high 8 with a decent 60'. The car isn't very light at all, race wieght was 4255lbs last year. Hoping to be 3850lbs this year. If the car will handle more power, 8's should be no problem, just to many variables to be sure right now but i think low 9's is a conservative prediction for a mild 15psi ish pass. I guess we will see, either way it will be fun .
