Default How much power am I leaving on the table?

I have a car with a 383 and twin t60s on it built by someone else, I bought it off of here. Anyway the builder used a BBK 85mm throttle body and intake. The car put down right at 660 on about 14 psi and was just curious as to what gains to expect if I went to a Fast 102 setup.

Is the 85mm set up enough for this?

Im no expert, but guys are making more power on stock TBs that are 78mm. I think the 85mm should be fine.

So moving to a 102 mm intake and throttle body wouldnt gain any power?

No, you have volume from the turbo cramming it in the intake

It would do double your power before it'd be a concern

Wow I never would have guessed that. I assumed it would be a bottleneck trying to shove air through too small of a hole. Thanks for the info, saved me some money/experimenting.

Your 85mm TB is probably bigger than your boost plumbing ?

To be honest I haven't really looked too hard at everything, it has rained almost everyday since I have ownned the car and it has been in my garage. I will definitely check it out this afternoon though.

Typically most will use 3". ie 76mm OD. It's readily available and a good balance between airflow and being a size that will physically fit in most engine bays. Some may go bigger, but for even just north of 1k, 3" is still fine.

So fitting a TB much larger than that....really, it's kind of hard to justify with any real logic. As a 102mm TB is going to be restricted by the boost plumbing, so makes it pretty pointless.

Yeah save your $1,200 and spend $400 of it on a Alky/water injection setup so yoiu can turn up the boost and make more HP.

Great info, thanks for taking the time to explain it and it does make total sense. I just assumed the car would make more power than it does at 14 psi. Maybe my cam is an issue, its an off the shelf Comp cam 224/224 114.

There can be many reasons for a high dyno reading or indeed a low dyno reading.
