Ya man, what a nice day for some runs! Sucks that you broke again. Oh well, keep finding the weakest link and replace accordingly

Managed to to pull off a new best this last weekend despite all the setbacks!

Car was really lazy, we had a lazy tuneup in the boost controller, and only 14 degrees of timing. The car left really slow, but seemed to do ok on the backhalf.

Great job. Will be cool to see what it will do with a 1.2x 60.

Just read this start to finish, great read, great documentation and pictures. What was the decision to go with the lsnext block over an LSx GM block? In college I did an ANSYS finite element analysis of the LSx block at 4.25" bore and 4.5" stroke 511 ci (whatever the max was, it's been a while) and kept turning up the boost and couldn't get more wall deformation than a Darton sleeved LS that ERL did a finite element analysis on that was acceptable. The LSx block used 15% stronger iron than typical iron GM blocks, but this was 7 years ago and I know the game has changed a lot. Below is a link to ERL's analysis, I never got mine back from my professor, no idea why, but it boosted my grade from a B- to a B+ final so I don't know if I did mine right or not, and all my virus ridden **** trashed my laptop, and I haven't looked through my external hard drive if I have another copy.

http://www.erlperformance.com/wp-con...ECK-SLEEVE.pdf

If anyone reading this is in college looking for a final project, it would be cool to see a comparison of the stresses of a splayed 4 bolt lsnext vs a 6 bolt main LSx and find who fails first. Mine only analyzed the walls since at the time there was a debate of the LSx could really go to 4.25" bore with the siamesed walls.

Default 2016 Updates

Well I haven't update this thread in awhile but some minor upgrades coming for 2016.

First and foremost decided to pull the block out and do a tear down just to see how things were looking. rotary1307cc influenced me on this and I am glad he did. As you can see from the picture #6 rod bearing was pretty much ready to give up and lost its crush. Glad the motor got pulled in time before a catastrophic failure occurred.

The motor is getting a new set of bearings, main studs, ring pack on #7, and the heads are getting inspected at BTR. Plan is to have the heads softened and new seals.

Really wanting to go to aftermarket computer this year but just can't yet swing the extra coin I decided to pick up a Davis Bump box used for a smoking deal. Hopefully I can learn how to race the car and do some events now without having to worry about making boost on a .400 pro tree.

I got sick and tired of dealing with the polished intake and charge pipe so I decided to have them coated. After talking with Race Coatings in Forrest Lake,Mn we decided on a black ceramic. I really like the way it turned out, and should look really good under the hood!

Other small items for winter include, back pressure sensor, pre-iat sensor, and pre-boost map sensor. I am going to stick with the factory ecu this year and try to make a run at a 7.99 et. Its a lofty goal, but a lofty goal is better than no goal!

From what I can find 8.00s to 7.99s is right around the fastest that I know of. Possibility of other going faster than that.

Looking through your build, amazing BTW! Just curious your fuel system to support this kind of horsepower. What fuel pump/pumps are you running? I'm reaserching and there are mixed opinions to support 1500 hp and your definitly doing it. Care to share please?

Haven't bumped this in a very long time! 2016 summer was another year of broken transmissions and disappointment. Broke the k-member, fought an issue with the car breaking up all summer, 2.10 TSI gear set exploded in the 80e. Didn't go any faster than the previous year.

So for 2017 I decided i was done with the 80e and bought a BTE shorty glide that will be paired with a GV unit.

I got talked into a switching out the ecu , and will be running ms3pro with some extra goodies as well.

Pulled the motor down again this winter as well as it was smoking pretty good towards end of fall. Found slightly lifted ringland on #7 again. #4 main bearing showed the same wear as the previous year tear down. At that point it was decided to do custom crank , pistons, and pairing those with a set of callies ulta i-beams.

Also pulled a part the comp trunions and found those are worn out. Will be switching the CHE kit with ARP rocker studs

Getting closer to getting all the parts gathered up. Hopefully like to have it ready late summer early fall.

I also found out that the car made it to Car Craft magazine. I thought it was going to be a little article write up, nothing too huge. Turns out it was much bigger than I though and even made the cover!

Congrats on the article! I saw your car in Nate's shop a few years back when I had him weld on some exhaust tips for me. That crank is a work of art.

What crank did you go with? Never heard of anyone breaking a 210 gear set!

It is a callies ultra billet 3.750 stroke.

I would say between 6000-7000 miles, 3 summers of use.
