And where did I say that ?

You're comparing a totally different engine and turbo to what he has. What works on a low speed static diesel, may not be the same as what works on a completely different engine

Stop guessing and listening to random people on the internet and call Precision and ask what their pressure spec is for your particular turbo. Just because it worked before doesn't mean that it's correct for your application. Hell on some setups we've had to use an .060 restricter even on a big journal bearing turbo to stop smoking and they survived for years.

Finally put an oil restrictor inline using a .57 n20 pill. This dropped the pressure quite a bit, but the exhaust STILL had oil in it and still was getting past the seals

A JB turbo should not need a restrictor most of the time, BB turbos usually do if oil psi is above 60psi. Diesel turbo or not, the shaft speed still is around 100+k rpm, has nothing to do with engine rpm. I think you just got a bad rebuild. Possibly the shaft was jacked up and they tried to save it?

id add my experience as well. im running a rear mount but same issue of over oiling even with a .080 restricted feed flange (restrition built into the feed flange). even with a 4an and a 10an return the turbo was having oil out the compressor and turbine side i put a .040 restricted flange on it and i dont have as much of an issue now. ive got some cleaning to do though lol
so even with a journal bearing turbo sometimes an oil resrtion is neccessary to control oil flow.

The thing about OP's is that it was fine before the rebuild, and now after he is having problems with everything else the same. Unless the car magicaly got an extra 20psi of oil pressure or his drain line is kinked there is nothing that changed except for the rebuild of the turbo.

That is correct. But the turbo had over spun before because of back pressure and had alot of shaft play ( my fault @ 30psi ). But nothing on the car changed

Sounds like it was just put back together looser or with possibly new/different seals/parts than before...ask precision if they switched suppliers of seals, etc or if they are identical to what your old turbo was built with...

Something definitely doesn't add up

Seems to be alot of smoking precision turbos going around...

I second that! I had a precision before and after the third rebuild I sold it cause I was tired of having oil in my cold side or hot side and their customer service sucks ***! I couldnt be happier with Reed.

I got a call friday afternoon from precision after they only had my turbo for a few hours. Wes, informed he was going to take care of me.
Sounds like precision has stepped up their customer service. He is also two-daying the turbo back to me.
We will see within a day how it is, I will be strapping it on the dyno this week.

It really sucks seeing this happen with them. Like others have said its been getting worse ans worse I have seen dozens of cases on here in the last year. All saying the same thing they send it back for another rebuild in which they charge you 400+ for again and it comes back the same as everyone elses.

Someone I know went through three 116mm in a month. They said it was his setup......go figure. At around 3500 bucks a pop that's insane.

Hopefully things start turning around.

Everything is fixed now. I used my -4 feed and -12 return i had before. i guess i had some left over oil in the down pipe that had to burn off. i took it out on the hwy and gave it some pulls. got ZERO smoke. turbo spooled great.

Thanks for all the suggestions. and Precision for getting the turbo right.
