you mentioned running a 8.8 ford, you buying a kit or "sloppifying" it in. not sure if you have any older junkyards in your area but a 73-77 gm A body rear will bolt in, full size 8.5" 10 bolt

i dont think the truck rears fit, it has to be the grand national 8.5 10 bolt

there are swap control arms for the 8.8 rears so i will be doing that

Yes, the GN axle is the 8.5" rear which bolts in.

If you need some ideas about how to setup your Malibu - head over to www.maliburacing.com They have a very good tech section whichs details what fits, what swaps and how to setup your Bu' (tires, rear ends, suspension, etc...). You already got the engine and tranny figured out

As always - EXCELLENT work denmah !!!

incorrect, the A body ( pontiac grand prix, chevelle, etc) 73-77 8.5" car rears bolt right in. and if you get one from a BOP car it will have bolt in axles from the factory. FYI.

My malibu had a 69 A-body (chevelle) 12 bolt in it with Iceman arms to make it work.

When I built the LS G-body for my brother, I swapped a GN 8.5 into it. Direct fit, zero fabrication or headaches. I also used a grand national baffled tank. Got it brand new for like $150, and drop the pump(s) of choice in and go. Worked great for LS'n the Monte. Not sure how similar the coupe tank is to a wagon tank though.

I put an 8.8 out of a sn95 mustang in my 85 cutlass with iceman uppers. Good fit, pushes the tires out a little bit giving it more of a muscle car look.

An for welding them ears on heat up the housing an run some 309 stainless wire in your mig will give u a strong weld an still soft so it don't crack or ARC weld it with a 7018 rod imo
