That's what I found also. Seem's your better off buying a whole car or truck and parting it out

Same thing here and it's only going to get worse. They want 1000$ for a rebuildable core around here on the west cost.

$1500 seems to be the cheap end of things here in the NW.

Pittsburgh He just always seems to find smoking deals. I'm not saying that that's the normal price around here. Just saying there is deals to be had if you look hard. **** around here you call a machine shop or something like that. You tell them you have a Ls1 and the like ok with a blank look. So I say. Ya it's a 5.7. And there like so it's a 350 sbc haha.

My point is the ls world is like speaking Chinese around here so I think that's why the prices haven't went up yet

I never have luck with Howbill having them when im looking but they do get them for pretty cheap.

I grabbed one outside of Roch for 1k that was an 05 motor with real low miles. I was happy with it.

Was this a boneyard you're referring to? I'm in Rochester every week. I'd love to get a 5.3 for a future conversion. I'm not LSx savvy so when I ask for a 5.3, what do I need to specify? is Iron or Aluminum block the best choice?
Does it matter what car/truck/SUV it came from? Is there a particular year that is better/worse than the others?
Thanks,
Dave

Recently found a lq9 with 86k for $1350 complete with harness from local wrecking yard. Customer bought it and i swapped it into his suburban to replace the 187k 5.3l that has a leaking castech head, i took the 5.3l for labor.

I just bought a 2002 lq4 with 190k that lost power and would barely run. Got long block with a intake manifold on it for $200. Chipped about a half inch out of the edge of the piston in cylinder 5. No ridges in any cylinder and all still show cross hatching.

I paid $1000 about 2 years ago for my 60k lq4 that was totally complete but no harness. This is going into my 71 nova currently.

Little brother bought a 45k 5.3l from portland for $450 about two years ago. Complete minus a wiring harness.

Found a 5.3l with supposely 80k locally for a buddy for $500 about a year ago, it is up for sale currently.

Im probably gonna put a set of lq9 pistons and get the 317 heads milled down like 15thousandeths, and put a set of bearings in it then drop it into my solid axled s10 blazer. Dont know what im gonna do with the 5.3l yet.

Long story short there are still deals out there but they go super quick, i see a flood of them coming back up here within the next couple of years cuz im sure there are a ton of people who went out and bought ls motors to swap into there stuff cuz it is the cool thing to do and will quickly find out once things cool off that they arent actaully gonna do it and sell them.
