SN95 5.3 TFS 216/220 cam, PTC, TH400 3.27 build thread
Getting kinda close so I figure nows a good time to start a thread.
Picked-up a 96 Stang off of Craigslist for $700.00. It was a V6 car and had a blown engine, but the body and paint were really nice.
Here's the plan:
Current engine 5/3/16 - '02 LQ9, apprx 100k miles, has the floating rods. Did not take heads off, just installed studs.
Stock K-member
Stock hood
4.6 mounts w/the UPR LS adapter plates (mistake to use the whole arrangement)
China studs
BTR dual springs
LS6 late LS6 cam
CTS-V oil pan
s475 83mm wheel t4 1.10
Twin scrolled
X/over = 2.5" off the manifolds to 2.25's 1/2 way, further reducing to 2.125 to the T4 plate
LS3 Camaro manifolds
3.5" DP
2 Tial 38's to screamer pipes
3.5" to dual 2.5" exhaust, 14" Maganflows
Cheapo 24x12x3 I/C
RPS BOV
-4 oil feed, -12 drain
Holley HP EFI
Holley 3 bar map
Holley meth system
Holley Dominator fuel pump, reg, filters, -8 feed -6 teflon return hoses
-10 Granatelli fuel pick-up
Stock tank
China fuel rails
Holley 83lb low imp. injectors
GM wires, BR7ES gapped to .022, any wider spark blows out.
Trans Spec th400
Trans Spec "Low stall" converter
8.8 w/3.27 31 spline and Ford Racing Trac lok
16" Toyo drag radial
With the UPR/4.6 mounts, here the truck pan:
Grease being used to check for hood clearance, and yes its tight:
F-body pan - nice ground clearance but its into the K too much:
Lets try a CTS-V pan - perfect!!!
Nice fit:
Another nice fit:
Not so much a nice fit - 4" DP just a touch too big, will go with a 3.5" for now:
Hot side done:
Cut some of the ribs under the hood for clearance:
Did something here that may not have been needed after all - shaved the top of the alternator a bit. I used the smallest truck alternator that Autozone had a listing for:
Needed to make a cable bracket:
And with all that, the 5.3 clears the stock hood using all truck access and the stock K!!

That looks damn good, I like that bodystyle and color. Thats going to fly, I wonder what it weighs?! Those have good factory suspension like the Fox bodies right? How long til startup?

Decided to take the 8.8 to a guy and have 9" ends installed along with getting the axle tubes welded to the center section. He has a jig to make sure the axle tubes aren't out of whack, which they were here:
Straightend with a bottle jack and an I-beam:
9" ends welded on and some additional bracing welded on. About $500.00 for the braces top and bottom, straightening and welding. The guy lives close to the Poconos PA if you want his #:

Not sure what it weighs, but I read somewhere that the V6 stang was like 3077 lbs. This has to weigh more than that now with 2 extra cylinders, a heavy azz turbo, I/C and pipes, 2 wastegates, etc.
Suspension is awefully close to the Foxs. Hope to have her started in a couple of weeks. Just waiting on the Holley system to show up.

probably not and they need to be changes. I bought them from Lingenfelter who had them labeled as LS9 springs. LS9 being a s/c'd motor, I figured they be good for my deal. We'll, turns out there LS6 springs. I feel a little misled. But hey, Demah says under 14psi use the stock "****", so I'll run them for a little.

Love the build thus far. Mustangs are some of my favorite cars!!
The 5.3 heads have a rounded exhaust port while the LS3 heads have a 'D' shaped port, will this have any ill effects using the LS3 manifolds on 5.3 heads?

Its the stock Ford cable, and I used a barrel end from Lokar to fit the stock TB. I was a bit of a PIA setting this up, but it beats getting under the dash to hook-up a aftermarket cable
Everything is pretty tight down there - I don't see a AC compressor fitting at all with these mani's flipped forward.
I was planning on keeping the stock wheels if possible. I can get 255/65/15's on a 7" wheel per MT, the 275/60/15 a 8" is recommended. Think the 275 will work on the 7" wheels?

The manifolds have round ports so I think were OK!

Waiting on the Holley EFI and water inj setup to arrive. I have to make sure the engine runs before proceeding!!
Among the many things still to do, I need to remount the factory power steering cooler which involves extending the hoses. Once that's done and the power steering system filled with fluid, I can start her up.
