Default Turbo questions

Ok heres the scoop i got my LS1 heads on the way, they're going to be ported and polished (Stage1) imediatley. Now this application is going to be runnin for a Turbo setup. My question to you is what kind of gaskets will i need to hold alot of boost first off. And second who makes good pistons, P rings, cranks, and forged rods that can handle this project??? Oh and feel free to let know of other things that i could rebuild or build on to that will help!!!!! Thanks guys

Should have went with a set of 6.0 heads if they're going on a turbo motor but if your building the bottom end thats fine. For the head gaskets Just use the stock MLS (steel) gaskets. If your looking for a budget build i'd recomend going with a set of diamond 9:1 compression dished pistons diamond cro moly rings and lunati pro mod rods. Use some good hardened pushrods, get a ported oil pump, walbro 340 intank fuel pump, set of injectors 42lb would do alright, depending on your power goals 50lb might be better. If your truck has the stock truck intake i'd ditch that and find a ls6. If the truck still has the stock engine driven cooling fan setup You'll definatly want to look at switching over to a twin electric fan setup, It'll help the truck run cooler and free up a few extra ponys. There's alot more little stuff you'll have to upgrade but this is alot of the big stuff. Good luck.

Got a question about the cam,Oh by the way the heads are here and are being ported next month i gotta wait my turn so i can get a good price on it . But anyway the cam, is this a good cam for my setup and will i notice gains even without the turbo on right now??? Reason being is cause the turbo is coming a little later but i'm getting the truck set up for it so all i got to do is bolt it on and boost it. Since the turbo won't be on right away will it still get noticable gains over my applications now(Everything in the sig.). Thanks for your input!!!!!

You should notice a gain over the stock cam with any cam swap but with a turbo you'll want to run a reverse split somthing around a 228/224 .580/.580 LSA115 or greater. Somthing around those specs should gain you at least 40-50hp over the stock cam with the new heads.
What are your power goals and how much boost do you want to run? Also what is your compression ratio now?

Well with the heads it should drop me down to about 9.5:1 CR. Eventually i want to be able to turn my boost controller up and bang 20psi with no engine problems. But around town it'll be runnin about 6-10psi on normal days depending on my mood!!!! And if i need to i can always have my pistons fitted to drop the CR more.

Well if your gonna want to push 20psi you'll need to drop your compression way down to around 8.5:1 and the truck will lose alot of power when off boost. So i'd shoot for about 9:1 comp. and push around 16psi that should get you well over 700rwhp. Driving around everyday you could drop the boost back to 11psi. You also might want to look at selling your 5.3 block and getting a 6.0 block then you would gain a few cubes to make up for the loss of power from the lower compression.

I think you'll be pretty happy with a cam like the one i mentioned. Call cammotion tell them your setup and they will grind you a custom cam that will optimize the rest of your setup. There prices are great for a custom grind.
