Default Anyone having any luck with hyper pistons?

Made around 800whp with a gen3 5.3 ("weak" rods/pistons last year.)

Was considering tossing a set of forged rods and hyper pistons in an old LS1 this year. The area above the ringland looks pretty beefy on these. I ran cheapo forged power (fed mogul/TrW) hypers on a few boosted builds and rods always bent before the pistons. This would be going in an early gen LS1 and I’d like to avoid boring the motor. (.010 is the max they can even be bored I believe.) For $250 it may be worth a shot to have a lighter bigger bore motor. Also have a gen IV 4.8 I could run sitting next to the LS1.

IMO not worth the money, just get a set of newer rods and pistons, or get some cheaper rods to go on the new style pistons.

Would if I could... This would be for a 98 LS1. I don’t believe they have gen4 style rods/pistons for them?

I have a gen4 4.8 I think i'll run next year. I also have this old LS1 staring at me. I wouldn't mind the lighter block and extra bore. Just didn't want to fork out the cash/machine work for forged pistons. Considering the cheapish I-beam forged rods and hypers for it.

Just run the 4.8 until you can afford some good rods/pistons for the ls1 block!

Similar pistons have been pushed over 1000whp before.

Always an option. I can afford them now, just hate tripling the price of the motor if I don't have to.

Was hoping some others played with them. Curious what these hypers are capable of. They look much stronger than OEM GEN IV stuff. I know we were able to push them really hard in the turbo buicks. If I can squeak out 900whp or so with them I think I'd be happy.

Since most "forged pistons" are high silicone 4032 alloys now, I wonder if they are even much stronger.

It just depends on how well they are made. Truck cast pistons will take as much power as you can throw at them but they are thicker than the factory ls1 piston. Those could be really good or really bad lol

As long as you don't get hard detonation, they'll hold up just fine to pretty much anything you can throw at them.

They'll do fine if the tune is right. I've run some similar a few years ago . I bent a rod before I found the weak link on tha pistons.
