Default Has anyone used the BBK or the Weiand intakes with boost?

I am curious if anyone has used these intakes for boost? I am in need of an intake as I think the LS1 is a restriction. I would love a Pro-Flo or a Hi-Ram, but I have a very flat hood and there is no way to clear one of those.

My options are basically the LS6, a FAST of some sort or a BBK/Weiand/Typhoon...unless there is something else out there I don't know about.

I would like to be able to make power to 7k, but shift points are realistically going to be around 6500. Car made 805 RWHP on less than 16 psi average boost, 12-13* of timing with the LS1 and 78mm truck T.

At 6200 RPM I am having voltage issues so that is where the power peaks and drops right now. I am working on resolving that (Powerbastards alternator, custom pulley). I think if it would have pulled clean to 7k, it would have made 900 at that boost level. I want to run 22 psi on kill.

I have searched, but not much info on these low profile aluminum intakes.

Any info is appreciated,

Mike

lol i was like, "theres a guy on sloppy mechanics having the same issues you are!!"
my buddy is using the weiand intake with a D1SC and makes 800 to the rear wheels no problem. im pretty sure its no better than the LS6 though. plus its a heat sink because its cast.

I had a weiand on my twin turbo c5 it made 670 rwhp 623tq at 14psi . I never had an issue and was a daily driver for two years.

The LS6 intake is good for 1200+, you wont blow the bottom of them until 32-33psi. I would personally buy a ls6 unless you are dead set on having a larger throttle body at which point i would do a Fast Manifold. The only reason i switched from my LS6 to a Hi Ram was for running a 102 throttle body and possibly welding secondary injector bungs to it for a 16 injector setup down the road with bigger turbos, otherwise i would have just stuck with the LS6 i had.

Not really looking for a bigger TB. Trying to carry the power higher. I want to make power to 7k.

Im running the BBK. I had an aluminum plate made to fit the bottom and had it welded in. Car isnt finished yet but imma spin it to 6500-6700 rpm. Thats about all the intake/cam can flow anyway. I like the aluminum intake, it make it easy for boost references cuz I could tap it, and made for a leak free map sensor.

I think I'd go TBSS first for cost effective power, and it outperforms the BBK, Weiand, and Typhoon intakes.

Cost effective depends where in the world you are....if not in the US, it hardly makes any odds by time you source and ship it across the world.
Plus the truck stuff are just so damn big.

Been searching and found various graphs, the BBK and Weiand really dont seem too bad at all, and brand new are around $500
And TBH they seem to fair very well in both mid range and top end compared to other stuff on the market. There was another thread other than the recent 20 intake test, where the BBK did seem to perform very well in back to back tests.

And being alloy...if I needed to cut/shut it can be done.

I never thought I'd be tempted towards one of those alloy intakes, but I'm starting to really think about it

Most of the big intakes, ProFlo, Holley etc etc...they all seem crap below 5-6k with only marginal gains over the rest say up to 7k, and only above that do they go further.
Lets face it, how many LS's push far past 7k ?

Even the 20 intake test, the MSD Atomic seemed poor below 5500rpm only seeing good gains above that and still not much better than the Weiand or BBK.

Go cheap, do the fast setup. With 102mm TB.

For an alternator go with JS Alternators, no special pulleys, has very high output from idle to 9,000rpm.
I recently put one in my car and it performs fantastic, my car actually runs better as a result.
