Porting a holley hi ram for boost ?
Porting a holley hi ram for boost ? I bought a holley hi ram for my ls3 project. My heads are cnc'd and I've seen sheet metal intakes put out some serious numbers. So I was wondering on boosted motors if I'd benifit from doing a port to match and smoothing the runners and my be the whole inside. Think it's a smart idea or just wasting my time here's an example
Boost is a measurement of restriction. The better the flow the more power will be made at less boost. That being said, the intake will easily out flow the heads as cast. Reason being there are no bends or valves in the way of the flow. Not sure if I can help you tho because I would port it anyways. Heck I hand ported my 317s knowing that they would make 1000+hp untouched. That was my goal yet I ported for peace of mind. Think of it this way if you port it first, you will never know if it was needed or not. It can only be a waste of time if you know it wasn't needed. Lol
I am no expert, but I would say cam selection would play a roll in the idle quality. As for drive ability, it depends on the car weight, gears, converter and tune.
