Default how small of a turbo can i run?

I am building a turbo system for a 5.7 vortec. my cam tops out at 5800rpm
I am not worried about going over that rpm. i will be running rhs heads and rhs efi intake. I want to put a smaller turbo on this setup say a 67mm and max hp numbers at 650. I am not going to go over that. i want to be able to run 3'' downpipe and i want quick spoolup this will be front mount. I am just wondering about housing sizes, size of turbo. this truck is a daily driver. thanks for any input.

A 7675 should get the job done in a compact form factor and spool up quickly.

67mm is tooo small. Id stay around 72mm or 76mm and stay on low boost.

I'd recommend a .96 with your rpm range. A 1.15 is a good choice but will spool slower and will carry power higher in the band which you're limited to with that max rpm goal.

Every person here thinks you need a giant turbo capable of at least 50% more than your goals or its blasphemy.

67mm isn't too small. There are 62mm turbos available with T4 housings sized well for a V8 and are rated at 700+ hp if you want to go that route. This place is HORRIBLE when it comes to asking for turbo size recommendations.

Run a 366 or 368 with a T4. We made 681rwhp with a 68mm compressor wheel on a 5.3l through 35" tires.

The stock L31 computer will not go past 5800rpm anyhow, so I would be looking in the 66-68mm compressor range. Most I have made with a stock bottom end L31 was 480rwhp and it lasted at least 5 seasons and never had one problem.

Alright, I am in the process of the efi connection 24x kit so I can run a 411 pcm with coil on cylinder. The l31 intake is the first thing to go...

That is a nice setup for sure, will you have a better then stock rotating assembly? Anyhow no reason for a 70mm or bigger turbo if you are only looking for 650hp. The one I was talking about had a ramjet intake and it worked nice. Had a little 212-215 cam and made great power from 2500-5500.

The bottom end was freshly rebuilt when I bought the truck but with stock stuff... I'm going to go low low boost and see how it does until I find a 4 bolt main block. I'm trying to get the whole efi system pcm and hot side stuff figured out and get a running

Finally someone that knows what they're talking about! Large wheels and A/R's are not necessary!
