Just trying to learn myself. If the 7.0 LS7 redline's at 7100 (HP peaks at 6300) with a 211/230 @ 120 cam. Why is a 231/237 115 out of steam at 6400 on a 408?
Try running the numbers again. 231/237 on a 115 lobe sep is 4 degrees of overlap at .050.

Look at what you put in parenthesis.... horsepower peak at 6300.... Thats out of steam to me. Once it peaks and starts going the other way... its not continuing to make power to 7100... thats just the rev limit.

And you are seriously trying to compare valve events and rpm capability between a square port headed LS7 and a Cathedral headed 408 with an LS6 intake?? The cross section and valve sizes play a big part in where X cubic inches will have X power Peak at X rpm.... a Square port headed motor doesnt need anywhere near the intake valve close point that a cathedral port headed motor needs to get to X rpm for peak power. Thats why it takes more duration for a cathedral head to match Peak RPMs with a square port head. The 2 different heads cam completely different.

Man folks are dramatic… Yes I was. Mainly I was comparing the OP’s setup with other 400+cu turbo builds with small cams made by folks like Lingenfelter many years ago(their GT7 cam was very similar to the LS7/LS9 etc) . What your saying makes sense. Doesn't change the fact that the cam I mentioned could make 1000hp and remain very street friendly. Regardless of how much is left on the table with another grind. As you say, the power may drop off a bit after peak, but I don’t think this means it’s “out of steam”. Still very possible to continue making within 8-10% of your max power well after the peak. I totally understand you don’t think it’s the best cam for the application. Doesn't mean every other choice is wrong.

Yes, got it the first time. Note embarrassed smiley face to emphasize my shame. But thanks for pointing that out….again. Very helpful.

Im probably going to try to sell the cam and go with a custom grind.

Probably going to give Brian a call next week.
