Precision GT4788 408 w/ A/C
#22
Thanks man. Tomorrow we're gonna sit down and get a final cost on the last bit of parts. I'm getting excited to really get on this thing. Sunday hopefully pull the motor out of my bosses car. He's doing a 408 in a 66' Chevelle and since I needed a block he gave me his. So I'll post up pictures. Pays to bust your *** on customers cars. How are you doing your exhaust? I was gonna run mine all the way out the back 4" into 4" duals after the Axel and out or just 5" out the bumper? I'm on the fence. This is a car that see's more street time then track time.

I really like it however my car I'm keeping the a/c. So my down pipe will have to be out the bumper. I know a lot of guys do it and love it. I just don't want to cut a whole in the bumper and decide I don't like it but guess you don't know till you try. I just know running 4" pipe all the way out the back will not be a cheap investment.

I sent my t56 off to TDP back in march and had it converted to a TR6060 as well. Got mine back in July because of the same supplier issues, he told me had a couple people waiting. Its just funny to hear about it through someone else too. Jason is a good guy though and the trans is really nice, im getting the break in miles in on it now. I went with a Mcleod RXT. Ill be shooting for 850 this year and 1000+ once the motor is built, so we should be testing this thing out pretty good.
My driveshaft was too long as well, kinda frustrating since i was in a time crunch to get the car going again.
Nice build though

You should sell or trade that TR6060 for an auto. You'll never get the max fun and /or performance out of that setup without one. Been there, done that, have the pictures. Also, that DP pictured early on is too small. You'll want to make a new one.

I'm giving the 6 speed a shot. I know an auto would be faster more fun to drive and all but at the same time I like my 6 speed and don't mind giving up some to keep what I like. Also the whole hot side in the earlier pictures is going to the waste side. We're gonna re-do it completely to sit better under the hood and get it closer to the passenger side. Also raise it for better draining for the turbo.

Well got another update for you guys. Got the transmission out and replaced the slave cylinder. Got it in then pulled the tail housing off the tranny to investigate why the slip yoke would not slide all the way on. Discovered there is a little stop there so used a dremel removed it and that gave me the clearance to slide on the drive shaft and not have it shortened. I have about 80 miles on it now and runs great. Shifts like butter. Do feel a little vibration in lower gears not sure what it is but I think its the tranny mount being shot and the torque arm moving around. So needless to say I need a new one. Also got the an adjustable panhard bar on and lower control arms. Just need a torque arm now. Finally happy I got to drive the car after 4 plus months.

Had a good weekend with the car. Got the lower control arm relocation brackets on as well as pulled the motor out of my bosses car. Its a stock 6.0l out of a 2004 SS Silverado that the kid who owned it ran it out of oil. HE has a 66' Chevelle that he was going to build the motor for but plans have changed so I now get the block for my build.

Got my 6.0l block all tore down and ready to go. The block is in great shape and we should have it back here in a few weeks or so then the tear down begins!!! What color do you guys think I should paint the block? I was either going to do a blue like the car, orange or black.

I was thinking the same. Plus you never really see much of the block once its in the car and everything is on it.
Has anyone put the ls3 style water pump on their car since the heater hose neck is on the right side if the pump instead of the left like factory? I think it would help with turbo and down pipe clearence being more to the drivers side.

Just a Little up date guys go the motor off to the machine shop on Monday so hopefully soon I will get it back and start assembling the motor. Untill then I will update on parts coming in and once the motor is built pictures of that. Once the motor is assembled the car will be torn down and the build will begin!!! This week I got in my Griffin radiator, Ati Super Damper, LS6 valley cover and my 2 bar map sensor.
