Default 5.3 turbo ring gap suggestions

Just want some real world experience on the matter. .. I'm getting ready to swap in a 02 5.3 lm7 with 130k and can't make up my mind on ring gap ... I don't want to pull the pistons because I don't want to either re stretch the stock rod bolts or put arp rod bolts in because I don't want to resize the rods ...I feel doomed lol ... the motor will be on 93 and meth with power goals of 650 to 700rwhp through a t56 with the on3 76mm .96ar turbo

Leave it and just do head studs one at a time. If it's done right you'll bend a rod b4 anything breaks.

I'll tell you right now I have worked with Steve on many projects. Never have I had to resize a rod end putting an Arp bolt in it and I build ls engines for a living. Cheap insurance. Also if Steve says open the ring gap. .... open it. .028 on the top is all that needs done. Better get a hold of Jose at alkycontrol

yeah that's what he told me to do ... he also said like 1 in 6 that you put the rod bolts in spin a bearing so that kind of scared me ya know ... That's basically why I was trying to avoid it since the work involved in swapping motors and cam blah blah ... pretty much have to run alky but for good reason .. I'm just a little worried

I run alky control meth on my 4.8. The car is a foxbody mustang. It's a rock stock 100,000 mile bottom end with cam,ls9 head gaskets, ebay studs, trunion upgrade, push rods,ls7 lifters, trick flow double valve springs and a cx racing t76 turbo. I use holley hp efi. I ran a 10.08 at 138 mph spinning Friday night and have probably 20 passes on it. I run 18 degrees of timing and 18 psi boost. I didn't mess with ring gap or rod bolts cause what's the use on a $400 engine. I shift at 7100. It is a bit conservative on tune as I am going on drag week this year and am limited to an 10.0 cause no nhra license.I feel it's got at least some 9.60's in it and will be turning it up when I get done with dragweek.

I agree on not worrying about the piston gap some have made well over 1k hp without touching short block, alky injection plays important part keeping piston temps down as well as adding power.

I just hope the turbo will get me to the power I want .... I haven't really seen allot on the on3 with the 5.3 ... mine makes 528 to the tire right now on 7.5psi [stock ls1 with tsp228r] so I don't see why not .... but I think I'm going to leave it alone bottom end wise , not that I don't trust Steve I just would rather chance the rings on his tune than the rod bearings with arp bolts

My cxracing t76 is same turbo as your on3. With a 4.8,glide and 3.55 gears. I weigh 3370 with me in the car. My trap speed Friday night was 138mph so I'm making roughly 680+ wheel horse power so I don't see any reason your on3 wont get you there.

Sweeeeettttt lol that's cooking ... I assumed yours weighed around 2800 so I went on a calculator and it said 580 so that it weighs that much makes me more hopeful ... mines the bb so I think the turbine wheel is a little bigger than the journal bearing so that helps too . Great set up though man

My turbo is also a bb turbo with .96 ar. My came is a bit large for a 4.8 but got it on the cheap. It's a comp 232-236 duration 595-601 lift 114 lobe separation.

not a fan of the aero 340 at all, walbro 400 is a much better pump and its only 100 dollars shipped with an install kit

that stealth aero 340 is impressive… but for the 650-700 hp rang you might add a 2nd pump just to be on the safe side. the 400 is a great pump also but you want to beef up your wiring a bit… it draws some powa

I just went with what Steve told me was good ... I'll probably see how it does and if I need more I'll add another pump on a Hobbs switch ... plus I read they were good pumps so I'm not blaming it all on Steve lol

I'm just worried about the engine holding up to that kind of power ... I've seen hundreds probably of them that make good power but I'm still chomping my finger nails because as soon as I get it tuned in taking a850 mile trip down to Florida
