Default wastegate on only one bank?

I have seen a few turbo kits like this, such as log manifold kits, where there is only one wastegate located on the crossover pipe, so it can only dump exhaust gasses from one bank. is this ok? im thinking of doing mine this way, with like a 50mm gate. would this kind of a setup still regulate boost efficiently? obviously the single gate would have great placement, a straight shot off of a 90 degree turn.

depends on alot of things but most of the time works very well for medium boost.

ive done some pretty terrible things with a hotside and had a single china 60 on the car and i could boost from 3-30 no problem

haha ok, thanks denmah. ive been reading up on it and some people say it can cause problems because one bank is seeing much more back pressure than the other, not sure weather this is true or not. it would just be much easier for me to run one gate on the driver side only, any imput is appreciated.

If you're talking about a divided twin scroll setup then yes you would have different back pressure, but if it merges before the turbo the back pressure bank to bank won't be that different if at all.

it is a divided twin scroll, each bank will be divided right up to the flange

alot of it depends on your goal and budget, if its just a fun street car and 500whp you can get away with nearly anything

if I really really try I may be able to get 2 gates in there, space is just tight with how I want to place the turbo. just wanting a fun street truck (s10) that I can take to the track, hoping for 750ish at the tire. something like one of your builds denmah lol

Its not like the world would stop turning of you only had a wastegate on one side of a true divided manifold, but if limited to one gate it would be better if you just merged the crossover before the turbo.

Bringing this one back up. So, how did the single WG work out? What kind of "problems" could this cause with more back pressure on one bank?

uncontrollable boost when trying to go above the springs rated pressure. Denmah ended up putting a gate directly on the turbine housing to control boost.

I have a single gate on a fully divided crossover
It will hold anywhere between 7 and 22lbs rock steady.
Im sure its not ideal, but it definitely works

I'm going to use a s475 T6, and I'm also wondering about that. Couldn't you put one where the 2 pipes merge at the flange?

Vht, yes you can, if you have an "open' merge before the divided scroll inlet. Essentially you are now tied into both banks now.

To the op, you are brilliant in the way you asked this question. I asked it wrong a few months ago and didn't get near the constructive feed back, if you decide to try this post back!
