Default stock bottom end turbo 5.3 turbo timing table with holley hp, advise needed

If anyone can shed some light on how close/far off I am here that would be great... I am very very new to the turbo 5.3 game (my setup has been running for about a week now). Mainly, I want to know if this is a reasonably safe timing table (Holley HP), way too safe, not safe, any input welcome basically.

Here's the specs
L33 5.3, stock bottom end, head studs, LS9 head gaskets, LS9 cam, NGK TR6 plugs (checked gap but not changed from out of box), 91 octane, 8psi, 12.0 commanded afr.

I've made a 70% tps pull and it seems to run very well. I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of it without pushing my luck on hurting this motor. I do not have knock sensors. I adjusted my timing table based off of one of the custom calibrations that holley had on the disc based off of information i'd found here. That is why at 150kpa I basically flatlined it at 18 degrees.

Again, I am going off what I've been slowly learning and I am very new to this stuff. I just want to be sure I don't make a mistake that could cost me greatly. Thanks in advance.

I don't see anything in there that could hurt you at 8psi but I would fill in the table above that just in case your car makes more boost for some reason. Just throw 12* or something like that in it above 8psi. Your timing table should resemble a stock engine until 100kpa. You have more timing at 120kpa than you do at 100. I'm at 28* at 100kpa and pull timing from there. Although 12:1 afr is probably okay at 8psi I target 11.5. Your wide band is averaging all 8 cylinders so I like to make sure the leanest one still has enough fuel. If you enable large table you will be able to fine tune it more. I wouldn't try to push the timing table unless you have a dyno or dragstrip available and some better fuel.

^^^agree with above. i think that on 91 its hight above 8lbs and you need to smooth the 80-140 kpa range some. make some pulls and check you plugs. I for sure would pull some out of the 180 range.

easy way to do it is go

150kpa 20
100kpa 24
80kpa 28

and interpolate

then you want fuel at

180kpa 11.5
100-150kpa 12.2
80kpa 13.8

for a nice smooth transition into boost

just my opinion on what to look out for

Can I ask how you guys save those nice screen shots? I hit "prtsc" and save it as a jpeg but it doesnt come out like the timing table above.

in windows 7 there is a utility that comes with the OS and its called Snipping tool you can choose the box you want to cut right on the scree and save it, or if you did an entire screen cap you could crop the image then to only what you want

there are tons of "snipping" tools out there varying in complexity

the win7 snip tool is my favorite as its small and works great

Here's what I've got now. Not identical to what you posted however I used it to outline mine. Now I just need to go try it out.

nice, looks good! you might not set the world on fire with that but so long as there is fuel she will be fine!

I can agree with not setting the world on fire, but the old N/A 406 felt nothing like this. To me, it's a monster right now. I wanted to get a few miles on it before winter to keep my motivation alive. Next spring I was planning on shooting for E85 and more boost. At this point, I can't fathom that feeling. It is silly fun right now....lol

Here's what I'm working with. She's heavy as hell but I plan on making it move out pretty well with more work.

damn nice work!

its hard to describe that turbo power to people that builds up, and keeps delivering power to the tire

I'm wondering why don't you add timing with rpm? Like 16 degree at peak torque then 19 at peak horsepower

woah woah woah. This is my timing table. I'm new to tuning as well but I thought my car was dialed in pretty good. It trapped 141mph and made almost 700rwhp.

I never even bothered increasing it because it ran good. I wonder if I am leaving a lot on the table

Its a LH6 5.3 (the one with 9.9:1 compression) so same as a L33. Im running an LS7 cam and ls6 intake

Im running 94 octane with methanol.

only way to tell is on a dyno or at the track
make a pass as is, then add or subtract a degree at your boost level and see if it picks up or down

or after a pull or two check out the plug strap

I tried messing with it on the dyno but unfortunately the car started spinning the tires on the dyno at that point so I just set it back to what it was originally.

It makes me want to increase it...because you guys are running 20% more timing which is pretty significant in my opinion

Your numbers are very close to what I run on 91 pump. I was at 14* at 170kpa. One more degree and I dropped 40lb/bls so I backed it off. That was with a little mpt70 on a cammed L33. I was at 28* until 100kpa then pulled it out a bit faster. You probably have a bit more room to go with your fuel but I would try it on the dyno or track. Maybe start adding in a degree above peak torque only to start.

Is that pump and methanol?
