Default Boosted Boat

Alright alright.. Had a great year with my jet boat running an stock bore LS1 with AFR heads just laying it down on big blocks, but time for more. I wanna start going after some of these big nitrous and blower motors.

I'm currently running an ported Victor Jr, a Marine Demon 850 and on a 125 shot runs a little over 90 in 800 foot Outlaw drags. VERY respectable on the water.

What I'm thinking I'll do is run some up and forward turbo headers, but point em back, feed thru an intercooler and into a big ole throttle body with a Hi-Ram turned around also so both the turbos and the throttle body are behind the motor. Most of the turbo boat world puts the turbos behind the motor and feeds a carb thru a hat. I would like to ditch the carb and go EFI on this one.

If I do EFI, would it be best to retain my MSD and get a stand alone controller for the fuel sytem, or get something that controls both? Just kickin it around for now, but will probably stop kicking and start doin after the first of the year.

Up and forward headers with some turbos would look awesome on that thing! As far as controlling fuel, look into micro squirt, and thne your spark can be handled by your msd box.

This should get you pointed in the right direction. Look over everything on that website, there is good stuff. Good luck!

Very nice boat. Why not just run truck manifolds and weld some Vbands on them? Aren't turbo boat headers typically double wall and water cooled $$$$.

The Holley Dominator EFi would be cool to use.... as you could ramp in the boost by time. It also has a self learning feature that makes tuning a hell of a lot easier. You can also flip tunes over from pump/race gas to e85 easily.

The boat is a 1990 Cheyenne by Hardin Marine.

Only boats with engine covers are required to run the double wall headers that have water cooling inside of them.

Considered truck headers, but they are just fugly for such a pretty boat. I've known of a few guys that have run the up and forwards turned around. You have to get some 90* stainless bend and have flanges TIG'd in the proper position, then get em ceramic coated. They look and work great. No biggie there.

My unkown here is aftermarket EFI on a boosted motor. Never done it. Heard about that Megasquirt stuff. As you can see, a big ole honkin' ram intake is not a problem on a boat with no hood. A setup that could run both gas and E85 would be freaking awesome!

My heads are AFR Mongoose 210's so compression is up around 11:1, or like 10.8:1, something in that area. Definitely want to go E85 straight up if I can't set it up for both. Forgot to mention that in the first post.

Of course, for simplicity, can't beat a QF E85 850 blow thru carb, and I could keep the cool engine scoop. It would be non functional, but look good. LOL

you could run the ms1 just the injectors for really cheap just batch firing the injectors still running the msd box, mircosquirt will do waste spark and batch fire injectors inputs for flex fuel sensors, the ms3 can control everything individually, also Factory ecu with hptuners or any of the aftermarket ecus out there question is more how much do you want to spend and how much control and safety options do you want? It must be awesome to run air to water coolers on a boat all that cold water

Yeah, maybe just run a factory ECM with HP Tuners. I've done that before.

This intake or a Holley Hi-Ram??

Found some water cooled exhaust logs I'm probably going to run.

I might be wrong on this one, but doesn't keeping heat IN the exhaust system help spool the turbos? Why would you want to cool them down?

"Why would you want to cool them down?"
Since they are not required I would guess safety. They would be awfully close to the passengers as previously noted. I bet liability would be high especially since a water cooled option is available.

Default jet boats!

nice to see another LS powered Cheyenne! I sold my old 557" BBF and installed a LS-1 with Megasquirt and 76mm turbo into my Cheyenne now. so far I have broken pistons 3 times due to my inability to tune EFI. putting her back together again. I just picked up a 6.0 with a blow thru carb turbo setup for my other cheyenne.

Ok, did a little reading around.. I think what I am looking for a is a total solution for the EFI. Something that comes with the harness, ECU and has the prgrambility and funtionality to control both spark and fuel under boost conditions. I want to use it with a Holley Hi Ram intake. So far, this looks like it will work. Comes with everything needed to run spark and fuel on my injectors and coils.

Is there anything better out there?? I'm thinking till I buy a factory harness and ECU, get the harmess modded, buy HP Tuner Pro with a wideband I'm pretty close to this, and this thing is supposed to be real user freindly.

From what iv read you really dont need anything more than a stock throttle body on forced ind applications, the gains that people see are minimal since air is being crammed through there anyways. But if a larger tb has to be run with that intake then that will work. The holley efi system is a nice piece, theres lots of people on here who swear by it, much more intuitive to tune than something like hptuners. As far as injectors go, i dont know how much power you plan to make but with pump gas 80lb siemens dekas will get you a long way and they are very affordable. If your going with e-85 or something else i have no idea

Really, the only reason for the Godspeed TB is cause it's on a jet boat it has to be pretty. Anyone out there run the Holley EFI with boost??

Im about ready to go for a ride in that bitch! I havent rode in my uncles Mantra jet boat since the mid 90's. He was running a 468 BBC with a Littlefield 8-71 and twin holley 750's. He still has it, we all just moved on to bowrider type ski boats when gas started getting outrageous and its been sitting ever since.
