Thumbs up

yeah those CC inserts are crapola. I tried them once.

Well looks like a spring tensioner is the way to go. It works on the Vortech and now you ATI guys can get a nice spring tensioned setup finally.
16psi, wow!
I am having all sorts of a4 problems. Not so much the 1-2, it the 2-3 for me. It just doesn't exist at wot.

What was your MPH in the 1/8th?

Also, after watching the video, I think its your tranny thats giving you problems, the 1-2 for sure kills you, and it also seems as if its shifting into 3rd way too early from the exhaust note......

Must be nice to be back on the road.

I went 11.0@123 with a 475rwhp 422ci setup in a 3550 raceweight, so I assume that you are looking to find another 10 more mph out of the car right?

I made 17psi with the new combo and made 746rwhp and would hope that at 3400 raceweight that I would run 140mph or more... Just trying to compare.

Our stupid track doesn't give 1/8 mph.

John, It will vary do to the elevation we race at. That 475rwhp setup you had is a good starting point. Although the car does make over 500rwhp at sea-level, it doesn't do it here.

Jeremy, we need to through that thing back on the dyno and see what's going on here. I feel your car should be traping over 125mph. It might be in the exhaust set up you have and maybe not. There should be no reason why that thing shouldn't run ten's at our high elevation. I know there's more in it. the 1/2 shift need help. there might be a problem on your 3/4 shift.
I think you did great last night, and I now it's just going to get better.

Put a TH400 in it with a 4000 stall and a t-brake

I would get back on the dyno for sure......

At least its running and making boost, now is the fun part getting the rest figured out

And remember if he is making 16psi @ 4000ft then add another 3-4psi or so at sea level..

I wonder how much I will make with a 4.0 pulley at sea level. I don't think my stock motor is going to like it very much.

I wouldnt do that so fast bos........ i just dont understand it....... something doesnt make since........ I know that Kyle put down 11 psi on a stock bottom end and ran a 11.51 @ 124 before, but now hes only seeing 7 psi with the 3.7" pulley on his 370. I know he put doen 489.5 rwhp and 502.5 rwtq at only 7 psi at 63-6400 and it would fall off after that. With the tensioner at 17..... i know... i set it...... and we added one more washer to each standoff because they were rubbing. All is lined up now. we will see...

I agree..

Its funny how one can see 16psi at high elevation and 7psi fairly close to sea level (MTI). I would wait a bit until jeremy hits a dyno and kyle figures out whats up to make any pulley decisions. You guys know what impeller speeds you were running with the COGs and MMS setups so you should have a good idea what you are looking for..

Yeah Bos, I would wait until Kyle gets his figured out.
Kyle, There are many things that can affect how much boost you will see. Maybe get a 3.4 but don't go up too high.
I would think a larger cubic inch engine would see less boost with the same pulley just because you are now trying to fill a larger cylinder(s).
A cam can too affect your boost, ported heads and even exhaust/headers.

I run 6.0 heads with a light port and polish with the stock intake and 1.57 exh valves.
You know the specs of my cam.
I run mac mid length headers, with off road y pipe and LM exhaust
Your bigger cubic inch engine can be really starving now that is trying to inhale with with the measly stock ATI intercoolers. Those intercoolers are barely sufficient for a stock cube LS1 and a D1. Like Scott@SDCE told me I could be seeing 14psi after the intercoolers but probably see 17-20 before the intercooler. He wanted me to hook up another boost gauge before the intercoolers but we ran out of time trying to find something that I could use to tap into the hoses before the intercoolers. My digi boost gauge takes a high reading and a low reading so I probably could have used one gauge

So don't be too suprised at what I see and what you see, its not a good comparison.
Our set ups are totally different. My .02 but I am far from a s/c expert.

PSJ yep I wanted to see at least 10mph more. **** with the stock LS1 I had I was running 12psi and got an 11.30@120 so that tells you how I kinda feel right now, but I wasn't running those confounded inserts until recently. I know those have to be holding me back. On the second run on the video when the one pops off, you can hear that the car now sounds a whole lot stronger and revs much better. We tried to get the other tip off so I could do a run like that(no inserts) but we couldn't get it off.
But imagine the restriction those things are if one tip actually shot off. Your 11.0 with the 422 would be a 12.0 up here. Pretty sad huh.

Bos, Yeah the tranny sucks but I think that its my fault, when I disconnected my lines to put the belt up, we let them drain into a plastic bag. I forgot to refill the tranny after the SDCE install I usually have the 2-3 mishift not the 1-2 lol.:grrr: But I was thinking the same thing the car shifts into 3rd early or that the cam might be too big and it goes out of the powerband on the 2-3, this can be a quick fix with 4.10's

I have about 2 or 3 more update tunes that NoGo feels will get me to almost top performance, right now I am on a base tune so I know some power lies there too.

Neal is definately right, this thing needs to get on the dyno already, That will probably happen next week or I just might use that nifty wideband I have coming to get some a/f numbers. I know the car will make 500+rwhp up here at 5600ft(hoping more like 550-570) But I still might have a tranny issue.....never got that resolved from the last dyno.

BUT LIKE I SAID ABOVE, DO NOT COMPARE TWO DIFFERENT COMBOS, THIS WILL TELL YOU NOTHING.

With that said here are some pics

Belt dust a tad but nothing like I had with the stock ATI stuff and the cogs

Does the s/c brace really work? Yes, the s/c pulley and the alternator pulley never kissed, like I was seeing before

Belt rub, Yes I have some but that edge of the belt looks and feels like it still intact. I didn't clean up the bracket when I sent it to SDCE so this might be from the cog set up. I really can't remember. I cleaned it off to see if it reappears, if so 1 more washer will go on.

I did PM SDCE to see if I should be seeing this much boost, as I was as suprised as anyone when I saw that flash up on my digital boost gauge. My friend Josh verified this on the return road and in the pits. He had the mispleasure of running me on that last pass On the first two runs I lifted early also.

SJH, PNYKILR is right, no MPH for the 1/8 is listed on our slips. Our track is kinda cheap like that.

Other than the 22cid difference,
longtubes and a cut out will probably flow a ton more than my macs and LM. He also has some nice patriots that flow 291 cfm at 550, mine flow 274 on the best port
Like I said too many variables to compare my 348 set up to kyles 370. Better flow through the engine the less boost you will see on the gauge especially with the same pulley.

J or Kyle or anybody that gets the SD setup.
Can you tell me what size bolt to get for the brace. (the one that goes into the blower)
I never got one and can't find anything that will work around the garage and I really want to get that connected.

Thanks!

Was kyle having belt slip?

He wasn't having any belt slip that I could tell after we put another washer on each stand off to get the belt off the bracket, he just couldn't see anything over 7 PSI. What it would do was jump to 5 then crawl to 6 around 5600 then hit 7 right at 6400, after that would start falling. I understand that Kyle and Jeremy's setups are quit a bit different but for the difference in boost to be that great puzzles me. Even so you would think that with 7lbs on Kyles motor he would see more than 489 to the wheels or at least I would think so but like Jeremy said I am by far no expert. We have some other issues we have to check out but Kyle will be on in the morning to give you guys a complete rundown, all I know is he is really frustrated after the day we had yesterday.

P.S. I also want to give all the guys @ MTI props for being so patient with us and helping us out with everything and letting us convert your parking lot into our own personal garage

You realize that a 11.80 @ 166 at 7900' DA corrects down to ~10.40 @ 130 at sea level right?

I'm just a little puzzled on why you are seeing that much boost, those inserts do suck but if they were that bad you would have picked up a bunch of mph and the boost would have dropped when one popped out. Which gauge are you using?

The 1-2 shift hittling the limiter doesnt cost you a lot of ET, by the video your car shifts into 3rd around the same time I do (a bit before the 1/8 and I have a 3.70) and sounds OK.

You really need to get the ar on a dyno and see where you are at, I would also hook a diferent guage up on the dyno - that just seems like an aweful lot of boost for that elevation with a 3.7 pulley..

Main thing is the belt stayed on, you are going to get some belt dust no matter what. I dont think the car ran that bad for the elevation, you would have to run a 9.70 at sea level to run a 10.99 at 7900 feet. I would bet your gauge is off and you are making less boost. At 7000rpm you are at 56000 impeller speed, unless you had a couple potatos shoved in your tailpipes I dont think you will see 16psi on a head/cam motor with a D1 at 8000 feet.

I could be wrong though since I never had to deal with that kind of elevation and a blower, I'm sure some of the colorado boys could help with that.

Yep I do understand what the run corrects to(I correct everything when I get home), but I am not at sea level and I want my 10's. With the same exhaust set up minus the inserts on a stock LS1 with a B1 cam and an MMS pulley and a 3.2 pulley I would see 12-13psi if the gatorback would hold up. My best pass with the stock LS1 and the 3.2 was 11.36@120mph. Scott told me that I didn't need to run a pulley that small at all with this set up because our belts wouldn't slip like the stock ATI set up does. I was skeptical at what he was telling me but now I am not that skeptical. He also said air is air, up here or down there, that with the spring tensioned set up I would see 15psi with no problem at this altitude with a 3.7....I was definately skeptical at this point, just thought I was listening to a sale spiel, but now I know I wasn't.

I'm just a little puzzled on why you are seeing that much boost, those inserts do suck but if they were that bad you would have picked up a bunch of mph and the boost would have dropped when one popped out.
I did pick up a bunch of MPH when the one popped out. My first run was 98 mph lifting at the end, and no drama off the line with a 1.65 60ft.

On the pass which the insert popped out, I lifted just after the car hit the limiter on the 1-2 shift, floored it spun em, insert popped out ran it out to the 1/8mi and let off before the traps, MPH was 111mph. I picked up 13 MPH on that pass just with one insert out. Boost on that pass was 13psi on the memory.

We tried to get the driver side tip off so I could run it with out the inserts altogether but we couldn't get that tip off so I stuck the pass side back on and ran it again. That pass is the one you listed above.... 11.80 pass

I am using the cyberdyne digi gauge that reads up to 21psi.
I have a Nordskog that only reads to 16psi. I will install that one to see what happens. I also have a mechanical that I used to run but you can't pay attention to it when you are running down the track.

unless you had a couple potatos shoved in your tailpipes I dont think you will see 16psi on a head/cam motor with a D1 at 8000 feet.
I will take a pic of the inserts installed in the tip, is it a potato? No, but it is damn close.

Yes I do need to get the car to the dyno. That I agree on, I need to get NoGo some a/f info and some logs so he can fine tune the set up

Main thing is the belt stayed on, you are going to get some belt dust no matter what. I dont think the car ran that bad for the elevation
That is all that is important, that the belt stayed on and together and my belt wasn't slipping(evident by the pic of the standoff) I am proud of this SDCE set up, and the customer service I have received from them(rivals that of Thunderracing) I finally have something that works. If you have a hard time believing the boost I saw, I can't help that I just reported to you all what I saw. Man did my name change to Rob all of a sudden? Just say great results, lets see what the other SDCE set ups do.

With the cogs and a mechanical gauge, I saw 14psi and I was nowhere near the redline of this engine, they were similar in size to what I have on the car now. That was verfied with a passenger(PNYKILR), I also had those blasted inserts in the tips on that run lol.
