5.3L torque monster...
I don't think the price is bad either. You don't have to buy bov's or wg's and they are very high end turbos.
If you have good fuel like e85, run compression around 10:1. A good cam and converter for your combo will also be key.

But I think Andrew in on the right track with the low rpm power. It makes for a funner street car for sure.
The EFR is only really an advantage to give you a wider spread of power as they claim to offer excellent spool, and excellent performance at the upper end too.
But you just need to look at the OEM...if you need fast spool for a high torque setup...you just need a suitably sized small turbo, cast wheel.
So it can be done cheaply, but as most people here would be aiming for power vs low rpm torque, it's natural to select a larger turbo
For heads I would think the TrickFlow GenX 205s are the way to go. Does anyone else make a head that works with the stock 5.3L bore?

If you’re going to spend the extra cash on a forged rotating assy and heads, you’d be money ahead buying a gen4 6.0. With a small cam it would meet your power goals with little boost. The added cubes will help with your “insta-spool” goals.
