You did...I wish there was someone out there that has done something similar so I can get some real world input. As for me, this is an academic exercise for now. My GTO is a running, driving car and there is no need to tear it apart. The Cougar that I am building does have a Gen IV 5.3L engine that I bough with the idea that at some point down the line it will find its way into the GTO with a pair of little snail shaped mufflers.

To make plumbing easier, I am also thinking about using an intake that has an intercooler built in.

ADM/LPE did an intake with built in cooler...not quite sure how tall it is though. Fairly sure it fitted under a standard Gen5 hood though

username's car on the Gen5 forum, "mylftft", fast car too.

There is a bone stock 5.3 twin turbo camaro in the build threads. Hard time finding it on my phone but denmah tuned it and they were the to4e china turbos. Wanting to say 56mm ish in size. Believe it made 700ft lb on pump gas and built boost very quickly.

Yes, that was the 1970 Chevelle that I mentioned earlier. He used the GN turbos on a 6.0L.

That's one, but his current project uses Garrett turbos in the GT30 range I think. My 2.7t Audi S4 stock k03 turbos are super small and peter out by 5500 or so. They are so small and make peak torque at or slightly before 3000rpm with full boost right after 2000rpm. it's fun for a driver, but I would go one or two steps larger for the best mix of performance/midrange.

Right...here is the caddy build...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...76r-390ci.html

I think Jim has a similar philosophy as what I am after here. The Caddy is a tank and needs plenty of low end to get it moving.

Regarding small turbos...

I would imagine if their small enough and boost hits VERY early, is it OK to drive around in boost all the time? Would fuel effiency take a hit, or would it all even out since you would need less throttle opening to move around? I guess you can go with an even tighter converter and even less gear.

Right now, I can drive around out of boost. I can hear the turbo spooling going up a hill but that's about at driving speeds. 3500rpm is when it all starts to happen which is kinda good b/c my normal operating rpms in 2000-3000rpms.

When you let off the throttle....boost goes away.

There will only be boost if the engine load demands boost.

Man if most you you guys could try out my Audi S4 you would freak at how early it spools up. On the highway in 6th at anything over 60mph it just jumps when you touch the gas. Granted they are quite limited in max output it is still very fun to drive around. I know it outspools the cast/journal 6265 turbos on my 383 10.1 corvette by quite a bit.

I'm building something similar to that third gen denmah tuned
Using a gen4 5.3 with flat tops and 243s, 10:1 compression, ls6 cam. Bought two cxracing ball bearing gt35s. The exhaust wheel is a little small but should be full boost at less than 3k rpm.
Hoping to make 700/700 through an auto on e85

Reviving an old thread but I was thinking about quick boost response too has anyone run the borg warner s200 or are these too small. Thought it might work in a twin configuration

The maggie car from earlier in the thread is a 6speed
It makes almost 700lb/ft of torque off idle

It's also on 364ci with 11:1 compression

It might be hard to get turbos to do exactly what you want with a 5.3

My car made 690ft lb at peak and spools at less than 3k through two gt35s, but even with the "small" turbos it doesn't make peak torque until 5k rpm

My 383ci makes peak torque, 750, at ~4200rpm, single small turbo.

What about TD06 20G twins? Twins could get you close to 700whp on a 5.3, very quick spool too.

I see BW has some new turbos out this year.

What do you guys think about a single S361SX-E?
