Tonight the trashed 4l60e is out and going back for repair or replacement. Spoke with Mike at EFI Source for the first time and what a pleasure it was. This is a true gentlemen to the sport. I probably asked him some of the most common questions that have been asked a million times and was very humble and had a great sense of humor. This is truly a great guy who deserves awesome credit and should have his reputation spread like wild fire. Actually going to order the Micro trans controller once the TCI unit is sold.

So I figured I would put a little update as to the transmission. I swapped the 4l65e in my wife's Escalade to a 4l80e and I found that the 2-4 accumulator had cracked the case enough to allow the snap ring to come out allowing the Pistons to be pushed far enough to not work. Also found the 1-2 piston under the valve body plate had cracked and twisted a little causing it to bind in the bore. So I did some research and found Sonnax pin less accumulator kits that are supposed to work really well. Got them ordered and should be here this week so I am hoping to have this transmission ready to go in by friday. Then I can get on to the 8.8 Posi rear I picked up a couple of months ago.

Oh and starting to mess with the built in 2 step launch control so I will make some videos of the 2 step and boost control working in Tunerstudio.

What booster is that? Is the new prop valve just to remove ABS or ?

How much did you end up paying for the MS and parts involved to make it work? Also, having used other tuning hardware/software, how does the MS install & how do you like the interface? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the engine management systems.

The booster is from Jegs, made by Speedmaster and it was to give more room for the valve cover and coils. The proportioning valve is from Summit and yes get rid of the ABS box which is no longer active and to route the lines away from the downpipe.

It was only $50? How does it compare to the garbo stock unit?

I really like the Gold Box and personally would not try to use OEM on another application like this. I did the LSX harness which pretty much plugs into everything except the alternator which is a little strange because the box can control it. Tunerstudio is AWESOME compared to HPT and EFI Live for me. I know there are alot of people out there that have spent a mass amount of time and research to have the knowledge to tune really well with those but for me at this time I have spent on and off (due to work) trying to learn the two and have very little true knowledge of what a lot of the tables and settings do. Tunerstudio is immediate change to the box which means it can immediately be changed back if setting was incorrect. It also has the Tune For You feature that is not available on all stock PCM's. It works really well and I have personally spoke with the owner at EFI Source and was just absolutely blown away that this gentleman took the time to answer my basic questions, (that I imagine he gets on a constant basis), which he also has a very good personality which is cool. You don't get that kind of service with to many companies any more these days which is frustrating at those times when you get to a point and are lost, you email and or go to a forum and do 10000 searches to find something close to your situation or post and keep your refresh button on a constant click rate of about 2 seconds so you don't miss the reply that doesn't always come. Now that that rant is over I am in no way trashing the other tuning devices because they absolutely do have a place in the car world, which is why I own both. Again in a situation like this, not worried about stock anything I will choose the Gold Box every day all day of which I have to give that respect to Mr Happel as I have followed and watched every build and video which sold me on the Gold Box. The capabilities it has are amazing, boost control, 2 step, traction control and so on.

Here is how I broke down the justification of the MS3 Gold if you start with nothing:
1-harness is $500-$650 to buy new for standalone.
2-pcm is $150 not programmed.
3-HP Tuners is $649 which you get enough licenses to do 4 vehicles.
So on the low end you are at $1,300 and you still don't have the 2 step or boost controller that has the capabilities the MS3 Gold has.

2000 Explorer rear with disc brakes, traction control and 3.73 posi.

Tag is hard to make out but top right is the upside down 3.73.

I believe the stock sensor will work with the MS3 Gold for traction control.

Sweet, yeah I forgot you went with the gold box. Definitely a good choice. I went with the micro to try it out, and plan to get a gold box eventually. This time around is all for cheap good boostie fun. Your project is coming along nicely! Keep up the good work

Thanks, yeah thought about the Micro but there are so many more features packed into the Gold I couldn't resist. Wishing the transmission wasn't capped from the start or it would definitely be much farther.
