Anyone procharge an LSX 454?

Default Anyone procharge an LSX 454?

Just about to pull the trigger and order the LSX 454 GM crate motor, I have an 02 trans am with a 6 liter with and F1 procharger now, and am looking to make more power, my current setup is 9:1 compression with 18 lbs of boost. I know I will have to dial the boost back some with the 11:1 compression with the 454, and will be switching to the Holley Dominator EFI, and a new intake as I have 317 cathedral port heads now. Just looking for some feedback if anyone else has built a similar setup using the crate motor from GMPP as their foundation, or even suggestions to another crate engine, my 6.0 has been freshened up 3 times and seems to be starting to push some water now, so I want to step up to a six bolt head motor.

When I was at EPS last summer Geoff had a guy drop off I believe a 2011 or 2012 Z06 that had an LSX 454 and a BIG pro charger for him to tune. It made some UNGODLY numbers, but I'm not positive what they were off the top of my head.

If you have him a ring he'd definitely be able to tell you. Car was absolutely SWEET.

That bigger engine will knock the boost down especially if the heads are a lot better. Worst case you could go E85 and run it. I'd like to see that thing eat personally.

May not make a lot more peak power but I bet it would drive great.

We'll see where this opinion poll goes.

Have you thought about running E85? 11:1 would work well with that fuel. I'd turn it up with some good fuel. That 454 needs a F1X! Haha

Not even sure where to get E85 in connecticut, the car is always run now on 110.

that crate motor wasnt built for boost, for that price buy a motor specd to your setup from a company such as TMS. Seems like everyone in this thread wants to see you waste your $$..
Get an lsx block motor built to your setup and that motor will eat 30-35lbs of boost easyyyy.

I don't want him to waste his money but otherwise agree with you. 454 is a complete waste for a boosted setup. Only need 427 cubes and a LSX or ERL block.

Thanks this is the advice Im looking for, I was also looking into the LSX 376 b15, just with my old school background of more cubes is always better is why I was leaning towards the 454. I originally started out looking to see if anyone offered a crate long block built for boost and my searches kept pointing me to the GMPP LSX 376, other than that I didnt come up with much for results. When you say TMS, are you referring to Thompson Motorsports?

If you're looking for the best bang for the buck you might consider a forged 370 from Thompson Motorsports. I got mine for a hell of a deal and it can hold some pretty serious power

Also if you're keeping what I assume is a F1A or F1R you don't need a 427. A nice 376 or 416 will get the job done.

Yes its an F1R, did a lot of reading on the LSX376 B15 today, found some write ups on a couple builds with a cam swap and and around 16 lbs of boost and some meth they make around 1000hp, which is where I am looking to be.

That's all you need. The F1R will feed it and stay more efficient on that setup.

Well then yeah I agree with detoxx if you are not stuck on a 454. That 376 will be perfect. I'd get a Holley hi ram and call up lil john Motorsports or Martin at tick for a cam.
