Default Turbo Newbie - what do you think???

First off, I am new to the Turbo world and still reading and learning things about them.

I have read a bunch of builds on here and many tech articles, so much that my pea brain is still trying to sort it all out. Given that, I don't want to spend a ton of money learning and making costly mistakes. I can fab stuff and enjoy that so I will do all of this myself with the help of my sons and some friends. With that in mind, I have been leaning to the "Denmah Style" of turbo motor builds at this time.

Here is what I have in mind at this time for my first shot at a turbo motor:

JY 5.3 LS, Truck Intake, Truck manifolds to build the hot side for a single turbo
-LS9 cam
-GT45 turbo like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GT45-TURBOCHARGER-TURBO-600-HP-BOOST-UNIVERSAL-T4-T66-3-5-V-BAND-1-05-A-R-92-/190592393465?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c603120f9&vxp=mtr-38-40mm Wastegate
-Intercooler with a core size of 24" x 12" x 3.25"
-BOV 40mm or 50mm
-60lb or 80lb Deka Injectors
-walbro in tank fuel pump like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-WALBRO-400LPH-High-Pressure-Intank-Fuel-Pump-with-Strainer-F90000262-NEW-/180842939472?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a1b144450&vxp=mtr-Microsquirt controller (I can make up my own harness)
-TH400 with a good convertor, How much stall speed?

This set up will go into a 1965 C10 truck that I have and will be street legal and a just for fun type of truck. I might take it to the strip to see what it does or even enter a Good Guys Autocross event with it. Who knows...

What I am looking for from you guys is this:
Am I on the right track or just completely missing the boat?
I want it to spool and make boost at a reasonable RPM and build power to about 6000-6500 rpm. If I can make 500-600 rwhp I will be very pleased.

I don't plan to go thru the engine other than the cam, springs, injectors and oil pan to fit the truck.

Tell me what you think, you won't hurt my feelings as I am still learning turbos and want to learn the tune side of it too, but I don't have the money for the HP Tuners or EFI Live hence the Microsquirt controls...

You're pretty much set, go for the 80# in case you want a little more further on

I agree with the above, the 80# injectors are not much more than 60#. 600 whp is fairly easy to get to with these motors as long as you have all the added parts to support. Make sure you size the wastegate, 44mm IMO and 50mm blow off. You will find most of the power will be in your tuning.

Also depending on where you live try to go with a little larger intercooler then 24x12.

I'm interested to know why you say that. The cam is only about $110. Lingenfelter uses this cam in there set ups too. If I have read correctly on the Microsquirt, I don't have to add the front cam sensor right away since it only uses the crank sensor.

Interested to hear you recommendations since this is a low budget build...

Pretty similar to what I just built

My specs are a touch different. I have the LH6 (aluminum 5.3) I did ls6 cam, ls7 lifters, Chinese head studs, ls9 head gaskets, billet timing chain, and melling oil pump. using a One3 76mm, 44mm wastegate, 50mm BOV. I built my own manifold/crossover similar to kits for late model Silverado. Ebay 3" 12x22ish? intercooler. Deka 80's, efisource 3 bar map, and same walbro pump you have listed.

Its literally been running a week with the turbo, and just the little bit I've gotten into boost... its gonna be a ripper compared to the 13.9 it ran last year N/A

My budget originally was 2k (just turbo stuff). I'm closer to 3k in the end... That price doesn't include any of engine mods etc since it was already done and in the truck.

Denmah has used it along with a ton of people on the turbo forum. My wife is actually buying me one for my birthday next week and I don't even have a new project yet. I will be throwing one on a 5.3 with an ls6 cam, 80lb injectors and a walbro 450 with e85 and no intercooler, just to see what happens in my next project, if I can ever find what I want.

Seems like a pretty good start! I'll be putting an LS9 cam in an iron block 347 I'm building for my buddy's turbo truck. From what I've seen and read, it's hard to beat the LS9'cam for the cost

Cool to hear, What are you studying at A&M? I have not been down to Aggieland in almost 2 years. I would love to see the changes to Kyle Field and The Zachery Engr building.
