How are you storing your methanol?
Im gonna get 5 gallons of m1 methanol from my tuner when i pick up the car . I was gonna use a water jug but my brother found some free containers that held cleaning material for rvs . So im gonna try them out .
What are you guys using , and how careful should i be able storing it in my garage as opposed to in my basement so it stays cool and the temp doesnt fluctuate .

Just be careful around steel containers. My friend owns a shop and keeps 55 gallons of the stuff to mix into washer fluid (makes his own) After a while the pump dies because of corrosion and any spilled on the top of the barrel causes it to rust pretty bad.

Just FYI I had it in a water jug that you can pick up at Wal-Mart and it evaporated threw the jug and it was sealed tight.... so I keep it in the 5 gal aluminum can that I got from my shop.

If that aluminum can isn't anodized then the Methanol will eat it eventually. Methanol and raw aluminum don't play nice with each other. I used to race MicroSprints and we had to flush it out of the fuel system at the end of the night or it would eat at the bowls of the carbs.

I have a buddy who works for VP
and he has told us....
if kept in a sealed container (unopened) and kept in a climate controlled environment (indoors, heat/AC to people temperatures).. it will keep indefinitely
basically as long as the specific gravity matches what the data sheet says...its still good
we were given a barrel of M1 that was unopened (55G steel container), stored in a garage, with heat/AC kept around 68-72*F.....
had a date stamped on it that was over 2.5 old...
we tested it with a Hydrometer
specific gravity was still .795....just as the Data sheet says for this fuel
once you open the Drum/Can...and its exposed to Moisture, it will start to go bad...
but it keeps for a VERY long time if you leave it in its original Sealed container.
