Great video thanks for sharing the 8.8 build. Is there much more involved when swapping a gear set? I have a ford 8.8 with 3.73s that I want to put 3.27s in. Is there other measurements/special tools needed to do a gear swap? I'd much rather spend $33 bucks if I can do it myself with that dial indicator rather than spend $300 for a local guy to setup my 3.27s.
I've found that if you stick with Ford gear sets, you typically don't need to change anything. Just make sure you set the pinion preload correctly. I believe it should be between 18-24 in. lbs.

Thanks for the tip. Right now it's a 8.8 housing with 3.73s (not sure brand) and Eaton posi. I have a set of Ford 3.27s to go in it and bought a complete gear install kit from summit.
Bear with me as I'm still learning the terms, but I was watching some youtube videos earlier trying to get more info on whats involved on the actual gear install, and a guy doing an install said you can get a generic harbor freight bearing separator to get the old one off, and use a household oven and heat the new bearing and shim at 350 for 10 mins and itll slide down without the need of a bearing press. He made it sound like 19 thousands is pretty standard for the pinion shim ford used from the factory on most 8.8s to get the correct pinion depth. He didn't mention the crush sleeve during the install.

Just out of curiosity... why did you (seemingly) haphazardly chop out the floor of the bed? Are you going to make a little access panel for it for easy access or did you just not feel like taking the bed off?

I'm just nit-picking anyways.
I don't know how you (denmah) make progress so quickly. It just blows my mind.
