2000 SS Huron Speed Build/Resurrection
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
This was the third outing in the car and we have ironed out a LOT of bugs. First track day out, 11.0 at low 120s on spring pressure. Next track day out, 10.4 at 133 on 14-15 lbs and then finally today 9's!
First pass of the day I went 10.2 at 133. Matt Sorian was hosting the track day and was able to add timing and make some tweaks to my tune. Next pass:
9.78 at 136.95!

As you can hear in the video, its blowing out spark at the big end. We let it cool off, closed the gaps on some new plugs, put them in, and tried again.

THAT TRAP SPEED!
We backed that up with another 9.8 @139.5
I am so freaking stoked. This is a STOCK BOTTOM END GEN 3 5.3 that we opened the ring gap on, put my old 241 stock heads off my blue car, and an LS6 intake on and sent it.
Props to Huron Speed on an absolutely phenomenal kit that performs!

There was a track event coming up in May/June so I wanted to get the car up on the lift and look everything over. While doing this, I noticed my passenger side axle seal was leaking pretty bad and decided it was probably best that I not go and that I finally have the gears changed out. Pyle Brothers, about an hour from me, does great work so I decided to put the "highway wheels" on (AKA some mismatched 17's that are sitting in my garage) and headed out. The car cruised the entire way down there between 70-85MPH with no issues, I even sat in traffic a few times.

It wasn't until I exited I-10, about a mile from their shop, that things went bad. The bolts holding the caliper bracket into my backing plates sheared out and I lost brakes. I dont know how I didn't crash or catch the car on fire. I literally pulled into their parking lot with the car smoking from it spraying brake fluid all over the hot rotors.

So this is how the car came back from Pyle Brothers, $200 dollars later.

So for the last 2-3 months ive been trying to piece everything back together. Wilwood would point to Moser and Moser to Wilwood so trying to get the correct pieces has been a PITA. BUT, i think with the help of my good friends, we got it sorted out. Since then, I've had some other projects pop up that have demanded some time so I haven't been completely without something fun to drive.
I picked up this 1986 Buick T-Type out of a field. Its been sitting for who knows how long. But with the help of the same friends that helped build the turbo SS, this Buick lives again. Its so much fun to drive.

Then the fuel pump went out in my NBM SS.

So add that to the list of things to fix!
But, in October we plan on going to the Buick vs Ford Shootout in Noble, Oklahoma. They have opened the classes to LS powered vehicles so I'm pretty excited to travel somewhere with my family and friends to race. Hopefully some good updates coming soon!
car kept hitting the A/F cutoff on the SCG1. It made 16lbs and went 9.9 at 137. I had an absolute blast though.I plan on going to a track rental soon before we lose all the cold weather here in Houston.
I started to take some time to start removing some weight. When I first got the car done, I put it on the scales and it weighed in at 3679 without me in it. Yesterday, it was 3539 without me in it and a little less than a 1/4 tank of gas.

First up was a MWC Light weight rear bumper support. From what I gather, it was about 25 lbs that was lost off the back of the car. I also began pulling out some dynomat. The whole back end of the car, all the way up to the base of the rear seats was covered. I was able to get the rear hatch area mostly clean. That is a 12lb dynomat ball, LOL.

I also pulled the corsa catback off to shed a little more weight for the track tonight. Turned it up some, put some Ignite 114 in it, and we are going to see what this Gen 3 5.3 can do!
Waiting in the staging lines:

Time Slips:

That last pass, with the 1.5x 60ft, I pushed through the brakes and crossed the beams then when, but overall the car 60fts really well for what it is.
First pass of the night, for some reason my boost controller wasn't reading boost but I would guess it was still at that 19psi mark:
Third Pass of the Night, upped the gain on the boost controller and it was holding about 20-21pounds with a spike to 25psi when I locked the converter. BUT, I forgot to raise the boost cut off so just a little before the trap it bled off all the boost when it hit 25psi and it still went 9.8 at 142:
Last pass of the night, you can see it push through the brakes then I go. This pass it held around 21psi through the run and spike to 25psi when I locked the converter:
If i could get this thing to make 23-24psi throughout the run I think its gonna be down in the 9.6x neighborhood but I cant seem to get it figured out.

I feel like we keep turning the screws to the boost controller but it just will NOT go anymore. When I made the first 9 second pass we had it around 20-30% (Innovate SCG-1) and on Friday night I had it all the way up in the 56-60% range and it just wasn't holding boost throughout the run. Ill post the video of the run with my GoPro pointing at the SCG1 so you can see what the boost was doing.
