Default Track update

Took the Stang to the track and ran:

60.........1.77
330.......4.59
1/8........6.90
mph...106.33
1000.....8.90
1/4......10.58
mph...133.33

This is a stock 5.3 with a 216/220 cam, 16.5psi in high gear, 14* of timing. 93 octane only. Only left with 1.5psi...I'll work on that. Does the mph sound about right for 16.5psi? Converter slip was around 8.5%. Overall happy with the way it was running.

What does it weigh? My 3200lb fox body went 135mph at 12psi with only 12*. Mine was a stock L33, valve springs only.

Not sure...from my research it seems that the V8 sn95's are like 3400, I'm 200 so 3600? Was the 3200 with you in there?

I also ran through a full 2.5" dual exhaust which may shave some mph.

I'm excited by these results.

I have a 5.3 L33 with a 218/218/212 cam, billet S475, 4L80e, 8.8 rear with leaf springs and caltracs. I've ran it at 20 PSI a couple of times. I think its about 200-300 lbs lighter than your mustang. Gives me high expectations for my times knowing you did so well at your weight and boost level.

Yes 3200 with me in it. Through a full 3" exhaust, air filter etc. What was the DA? I'd say yours is on par with other 5.3's.

Apprx 850', so it was a good nite. I'd like to try a cut-out and maybe shifting a little lower...I was shifting at ~6300+, but looking at the datalogs fuel consumption peaks around 6100 and then starts dropping slightly after.

It might be heavier than I even think with that damn s475 in there, i/c and charge piping, 2 wastegates, DS loop and full dual exh. Need to find some scales.

Yeah gotta lean on her a little harder off the line for sure if I want the ET to come down. I'd love a 1.4 '60 but will settle for a 1.5!!! A dyno tune probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Finally some encouraging results Vince!
That's more like it!
You have a two step function right?
And I bet it will like a cutout.

Yes 2 step was activated I just didn't have the pedal mashed down enough (I heard the turbo spooling so I thought I was good but evidently not)

Just need to find room to install a cut-out. I have the cut-out sitting on the shelf.

Yeah, takes some getting used to. Basically just floor it on the two step.

Nice times! Any day you can race a car and it comes home under it's own power is a good day.

Cruise by the dump or truck station to get a weight, it will let you know if it's down on power. 3600lbs is pretty heavy, I'd be surprised if it weighed that much.

3600 does seem heavy, but again everything I've read points 3300-3400 for the car. I will try and find a scale.

Does 133mph seem light though at 16psi? The last 5.3 with the LS6 cam did the same. Been meaning to try running w/o air filter to see if that would make a difference but don't have the ***** to run w/o one:

Is that still the 75/83 turbo? I'm running that same one on 15-17 psi. Time and raceweight in sig.

Also, I wouldn't worry one bit about popping the filter and tube off at the track. I do mine with no concern. And your filter looks relatively small so I'm sure you'd pick up some.

Yep same turbo, and you running basically the same mph with an extra 1500lbs confirms my suspicions that I should be running faster. Any other work done to the engine?

My airfilter is 7" long, it was the biggest I could get in there. I was thinking of installing a back pressure gauge to see if the engine was possibly working too hard for whatever reason to make the 16psi.

Your air filter is fine IMO. Mine isn't that big. Your times sound right for a 3600lb car using the basic HP calculators.

I was going 143 at 17lbs with an 8.6:1 5.3... same turbo. 2840lbs race weight. Which calculates to 665hp. At 3600lbs that would be 678hp.

Here's my car on 10-11 psi through the 3" exhaust out the back when it had the Turbonetics 7875 and TU1 cam. 1-2 shift happened at 5300 and I was leaving on no boost. This combo went a best of 9.92 @ 140 on 14 lbs. My Camaro is a 1SC stripper car but still weighed around 3450 with me in it.

For those that don't want to watch the video the results were:

60' - 1.77
1/8 - 7.06
MPH - 107.27
1/4 - 10.679
MPH - 136.84

With that being said, a 5.3, 93 octane, and 14*, I think you are doing alright. I was on E85 and 18* of timing.

Seems like the 6.0's run a lot stronger at lower boost, which I kinda noticed with LQ9 I had in here prior (RIP). Cant complain though for stock 5.3 (except cam) and cheap converter. I'd like to do a dyno tune before attempting to run it any harder.
