Default 5.3 ls turbo

im trying to get some info on building a turbo engine for my firechicken.
I have a ls1 already with PRC stage 2.5 heads, ls6 intake manifold, ms3 cam, injectors and a few other little goodies. as of right now im on nitrous but I want to go the turbo route. my main question is how many cubic inches can I get out of a 5.3 truck block. as well as should I just stay with my ls1 platform. I don't plan on running anything over 12psi im trying to make a street strip car not a strictly track car. im a go hard and will always daily my trans am I do now and plan on after its a turbo car. im sure some of this has already been covered but hell im new to this sight and wanted to start a new thread.

So you recommend leaving stoke bore and stroke on the 5.3? What kind of boost can I expect to run through a stock 5.3 and still be reliable

It is really all in the tune, but you can run 15-18psi all day, every day and 2x on Sunday.

Also, gen 3 or gen 4 if staying stock block? Gen 4s have the stronger rod design and LS2 timing chain design.

The gen 3 5.3s after 04 Had the stronger gen 4 style rods and pistons in them.

I would recommend that you stay with the factory displacement on your 325, but you can safely bore it out to 3.902" and stroke it to 383ci with a 4" crank. But I doubt you would find it at all necessary if this is a street car and not a kill mode track car.

in 2015, with the tuning and fuel capabilities, i'm not building anything unless i'm trying to make 800whp+ religiously. So pretty much find what your goal is, then decide the route.

I don't think the OP is going to be building anything in the 800+rwhp range with a stated boost limit of ~12psi.

For a street car, with a +/- 12psi goal, I think the 5.3L fits the bill perfectly, and is probably closer to what you want in stock form, compared to any stroker you can make out of it.

Your heads and intake on a stock displacement 325" shortblock, with a mild turbo cam will prove to be driveable, enjoyable, and reliable. What more can you ask for?
