Default 383 aluminum or 402 iron block, better daily driver?

I have to rebuild my motor and am debating between these two. I need the most reliabilty as possible. The car won't see much track time for about another year ( I can't afford to rebuild again untill I get out of school ) but I'd still like to get more power than before. I'm running a D1sc on it. It looks like the cost will be about the same. Any suggestions on what to do, and any ideas what kind of power I might be able to get with a good, safe, pump gas tune? Thanks.

You might want to talk to the guys at Combination Motorsports in Las Vegas about building a motor for you, they have some real fast FI cars, nice guys too. Their # is (702) 798-8504

i think they will both be as reliable.
if it was me and money was a concern id get the lighter 382 and use the extra money for a good tune. the tune will determin the reliability.

Well, I finally got my engine apart and one of the sleeves is cracked so I guess using my block is now out of the question without doing a costley re-sleeve. Now I'm leaning toward the 408 sense I have to buy a new block anyway. Is there going to be any cost difference in the heads with the bigger bore vs. sticking with the alum. block?

you also might check into getting your block resleved using the darton sleves. thought you might be able to pick up a good cheap iron block for a few hundred $$
i think the darton sleves are $1200, then the cost of machining.
