Default Need a good cheap Boost hobbs style switch

Got my 5 yr old Snow performance Stage 1 NA water/meth kit all plumbed up and have been trying to get the included hobbs switch to work under boost (would love it to activate around 4 ish PSI). Ive emailed snow performance and they repeatably tell me the hobbs switch is good for up to 15psi. Well I was hesitant and decided to try to adjust it and no dice. A month or so late Ive been thinking I can use this switch and I can't… wtf. Finally find the original instructions to the kit and now i read the switch is only adjustable to like 10" to 3.5" of vacuum. So it doesn't do boost at all! Wish I could just write the guy a email calling him an idiot and not just blurt the first thing that comes to mind when your new stage 1 kits have switches good till 15psi. I had repeatedly told him how old the kit was and that the kit model # is even different now… idiot… but I digress.

Looking at boost switches now I guess. Saw the one from devils own which is nice bc it has 1/8" NPT threads that I can thread right into my boost manifold block. But the $12-17 shipping is insane for such a small box.

Are their cheaper switches out there i can use? I have a holley 3.5psi fuel pressure switch that I was going to use for a nitrous build can I use that? I know its rated for fuel but boost has got to be the same thing?

My motor will see 10-12psi via torqstorm supercharger and want this switch to be my sole activation for my meth kit.

I'm actually currently watching that one lol. Just looking before I pull the actual trigger. And adjustable switch would be nice to figure out when I want it to spray since I'm not going to be running a progressive controller (I always could I guess). So looking between a set pressure switch or an adjustable.

I guess what I should Ask is can a fuel pressure oil pressure switch be used for boost? I also have some small oil pressure switches that I could use if need be. The smaller the switch the better as well since my boost block is only so big and I'm sure this switch would block a few ports where I would have to plug them.

Or run a short line to it to gain access to the other ports.

I run the same one. I set it to 8 PSI and I use it for the ground on my methanol pump. I also had my 2nd fuel pump on it at one time. Works great.

So I came home and decided to test my pressure switches I have left over from previous builds and I was curious to the psi activation points. I wanted to see what I had before I drop $30 on a new switch.

I have a Holley fuel pressure switch very robust and heavy and verified with a compressor and a few pressure gauges and LED that it has a pressure switch rating of 5.5psi. That one will work beautifully!

I then tested an oil pressure safety switch I had laying around and figured out it had a 8.5psi switching pressure. That's good to know! I was using it for low oil pressure that would kill the motor but never knew the psi rating.

Decided to see if I can get the 5.5psi Holley switch to work. The 1/8" npt screwed right into the boost block. This is just test fitting as it might contact my coil cover but worst case I can run a 90* and push it straight up which I will probably do. It's robust so I'm sure the rating is like 10amps which should be enough to ground the meth pump relay!

Personally, I do not like to skimp to much on parts that can cause major damage if they fail. If you are going to spend the 25 bucks on the switch mentioned, I would look a the Racetonix switches. They come in various pressure levels and are adjustable from there, up and down several lbs. They also have proper factory style connections which will keep out moisture and dirt.

I use 3 of them, all adjusted to exactly where I want them.

Those look nice, I'll have to look into them and what the total cost will be. I do hope they come withe the pigtail.

I would have to disagree on "skimping" out. This is a made in USA pressure switch designed for fuel/oil etc, if anything its overkill for just air pressure. A pressure switch is a pressure switch, I would not run a non fuel rated pressure switch in the fuel system but I do not believe their is a pressure switch just for "air" as they are probably all rated for air but have different ratings beyond that for fuel/oil etc.

I agree that on something as important as the switch that activates my water/meth and keeps my motor from potentially eating itself should be the correct part for the application but I do have fail safes, if the IAT does not sense a huge drop in IAT then it sorta goes into safe mode and kills timing etc.

I will look into those switches as well tho. Price is king! Why spend money on a switch if I have one already that fits the build.

Checked them out, 4psi switch is like $25 and shipping is $15 for 1 tiny pressure switch... haha no thanks. Did verify it comes with a connector. I hate companies that completely overcharge for shipping.

Shipping probably more for you because they are in Canada. We get ripped shipping anything up here.
