Default e85 timing table.

what are you guys running for timing for fast spool e85 combos. just got my brothers Silverado 6.0 running

6.0 with new heads stock48 218 cam (degreed)
258 mm coan converter 3000 stall no boost high gear wot.
etr ho s476/92/1.25 turbo.


makes power but is slow to spool like 5 seconds to positive pressure. seems to slow.


the old combo spooled instantly 6.0 stock with on3 78/75 turbo. and that's the tune I started with.its a little rich low/mid 10s on the gas scale running e85.


just hoping to see a timing table to compare. mine is a little conservative and might be hurting spool. thanks.

I don't have my table in this pc but it is down to 26* by 100 kpa and 15* by 175 kpa.

I would leave off 7lbs. I ended up only running 10lbs and went 9.80@141 before I parted the car out. Stock crank, forged mahle pistons.

thanks.

I'm hoping some tuning will wake it up. the converter is pretty tight and might be hurting it a lot but until the tune is closer I wont know. if you go wot it will start spooling at about 3000 rpm and slowly get to 10# in about 5 or 6 seconds and that get it to about 4400 rpm . once in boost the converter feels great.

Are you talking about at the track or just driving on the street? If I were to just go WOT from a stop or while cruising, it did similar things as you mentioned. However, leaving off of the 2step and brake, completely different animal.

no I'm sure at the track it will work fine as it has launch control and a t-brake . but the street manors is where it is lazy. I did lean up the fuel curve into the 12.5 area last night and that helped a lot . it is down to about 2 to 3 seconds from cruise to 12# now. still way way longer than the on3 78/75. a little more converter whould cut it down I'm sure.

Can you input negative numbers? -10 to -18* will get it spooling quick. I make 12+lbs in 2 seconds with a really tight converter and 96mm turbine on my 6.0.

How much timing is in it when it seems lazy at the 12 psi?

at boost it runs good and it is around 15* it is the 100kpa to 150kpa where it lags. I did some work on the tune and got it to the upper 12s for afr in low boost and it spools a lot better. I think the tune is fine now but the converter is a little tight for this 92mm turbine.


once it gets there it runs very good.

You cant really expect it to spool like that small on3 did. I do think a lot of your problem is due to the converter however, it sounds too tight to me. But it's a fine line, too loose and you blow through it.

I'm running an 80/96/1.32 (T6) and it's downright lazy compared to my old 75/83/1.0 (T4) but is an absolute monster at the track and highway pulls once it lights off (~950 rwhp). I'm about to swap it out for a 67/87/1.25 (T6) in search of an instant boost light to light turbo. The wheel is still rated at 95 lbs/min so it should make 750 rwhp. But I'm also going back to gasoline from E85.

I would make sure it doesn't have any exhaust leaks also. I was hunting forever on a buddies car to find out why it wasn't spooling, and it turned out, one of his welds was leaking reaaally bad. Also, make sure you have the fire rings in the wastegate flanges.

Yea the heavy BW turbo will spool slower than the small shaft 75mm turbine turbos but still should be able to be made decent. I always keep mine at about 13~13.5:1 and 28~30 deg of timing below 3~5 psi then taper from there and start adding fuel until about 18 deg at 210 KPA and 12:1 afr, to 16 deg 11.6 afr at 18 psi and 14~15 deg past 22 psi and 11.3 AFR. All AFR is gas scale. Also if running lower boost psi with a high flowing turbo like that the WG can start to open early like around 5~6 psi to keep boost down around 12 psi. You can test that by disabling wg and just see how it acts while controlling boost with your foot. I used to footbrake that same turbo and combo with a tight Yank sc3000 converter that only flashed 2500 before boost hit it. It was a little slow but worked. The 3400 converter that flashes 3000 before boost works a lot better.

What's the best way to make sure the gate doesn't crack but still gives you control?

Don't allow any boost to the ports and use a WG spring that is strong enough to keep the gate shut 100% till your desired launch boost level at least. Then use boost controller of some sort from there.

The difference between 35* advance and -17* of retard was night/day for building boost on my setup.

the tuning has helped a ton and I think we have it to a very tolerable spool time. feels good it is right at 14# boost and 16 degrees timing right now and runs very well. with the afr's in the low 11s gas scale.

Use a 4 port boost control solenoid. It inverts the boost control lines so that the top gate sees 100% of the pressure until the valve starts to open. I could make 28psi on a 7psi spring with the controller turned up. You get noticeably faster spool and a broader range of adjustability.

Since this thread was out, I actually installed a 3 port solenoid for a while and then replumbed it to duplicate a 4 port solenoid. Boost curve is nuts and the adjustability with my 7 psi spring is huge. Great improvement. Stabbing the throttle at 15-20 mph in first and it'll go to 18 psi in about a second. And that's at 40% DC.

Nice results! I may have to try one. With the 3-port and a 7psi I can get to 18psi but that's about it. Wonder if the 4 port I can go from 0 (or close to it) to 18psi...that would be interesting.
