How much oil you running and what type?
Been doing a lot of reading on this subforum about oil. Seems a lot of you are running Rotella 15w40 and anywhere from 6.5 quarts to 7. I'm running a stock 5.3 with a 76 mm turbo & e85. Scavenge pump as well. I'm also in New Mexico so it's usually hot out where I'm at. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance

That's what I'm hearing? Confused on quarts on how much. I just got my car running last night on a base tune. Have Mobil 1 5w30 5.5 quarts. Drove about 3 miles, oil pressure dropped off a lot. I'm thinking more oil will be needed now because of the newly added turbo and scavenge pump. Was thinking about flushing this fresh oil and just going with Rotella since it's being recommended a lot here. Just wondering how many quarts? 6.5-7?

Thank you guys for the info, saviors! You think I should flush this 5w30 Mobil 1? Has only 10-15 miles on it and just run Rotella? Also do you have a link on what gauge I should get? I just picked up a 3 pillar pod and only have an AEM AFR on it now

Just be careful running the rotella (or any heavier oil) because alot of those oils are for diesels.
They can be identified by the stamp on the back. Diesel oil will start with a C (for combustion ignition) and gasoline oil will start with a S (for spark ignition)
Or something like that.
I guess the detergents are very different. Ive ran both in gas engines before with no issues, but its just as easy to get the right oil.

Funny...out of all the people I know with LSx engines, or Fords or any other muscle car makes since 1998 (18 years) since I bought my 1998 WS6...maybe a good 50 personal friends or acquaintances over the years at gatherings and car shows......not a single person with a well built stroked/bored engine or boosted engine ever got close to 100,000 miles without having to rebuild it, or whos engine has let go for some reason or another and grenaded.
They all use expensive synthetic oils.........
I have never used anything but the cheapest off the shelf Castrol GTX $2.99 quart oil. My engine made 173,000 miles....and never burned oil along the way.
I always used 5 1/2 quarts....15w20 only.
