Default Build Goals - 5.3/Procharger

I have one more outing on my nitrous setup before I sell it off. I am switching to a procharged setup, just have a to decide on the right pieces. This is what I am planning:

5.3 iron block (already have)
forged pistons/rods
stock crank keyed
ARP head studs/LS9 head gasket
Reusing my AI 226cc LS6 heads (63cc)
Custom Cam
Fast 92/92
1 7/8" LTS/True duals
F1A/R/C?
93oct + meth

I want to make somewhere in the 850whp range.

Do I need to worry about lifting the heads, and just consider picking up some aftermarket castings? How much am I giving up staying with a 5.3, would it benefit from a 3.9 bore?

I have thought about a setup exactly like this. I think it would be a pretty stout setup!

An F1-a will get you to those goals, but on a 5.3l, expect to push about 20-22psi, but don't be afraid of boost psi.

I was going to go with a 5.3 and D1SC but after adding up the cost and KNOWING I want to go faster I went the F1A route (as well as finding a deal on a used kit) so I am basically on the same path as you but with a pro flow intake. I will see what kind of power and how much boost it takes, but goal are 5.5s 1/8th mile.

With that being said, everyone I am talking to says to build a bigger motor as it "takes power to make power" per say with a blower car compared to a turbo car and in the retro spec I am on the side building a 372 5.3 based setup with a 3.9 crank, 3.89 bore and 6.125 rod and then keeping the 5.3 for a back up.

See, I don't think there is as much side load on a crank with a spring loaded tensioner, no more than the rest of the factory accessories that it's spinning.

I see it as if you have the accessories on it then it's being loaded all the way around with it going to he left, up, middle, right, down then across. With the procharger it has one direction to be pulled. Speedfreak on here bent his crank with his F1a with aster bracket not too long ago and on yellow bullet it seems a lot of guys have too. I could be all wrong in my thinking but just from doing the reading this is what I have gathered.

I am going to copy dopefedzs build mostly. A&A bracket and corvette balancer, no power steering or ac. Alternator off the 4 rib portion of the balancer.

I'm not afraid of the boost, but want to decide if heads with a thicker deck are needed now or not.

Larger motor would be easier to make power but the 5.3 is more than capable. Some will argue that the 4.8/5.3 handles boost better than the larger motors. 5.3s have been much higher than 850rwhp.

You should prob run smaller chambers for the smaller piston size but aftermarket castings help with lifting the heads. Your going to have to run arp studs with 20+psi at a minimum. Once it gets beyond that your looking at LSX block/head bolt patterns.

12psi centri on a stock 1999 150k 5.3 here on 93 pump and FMIC and meth. Might go 6.0 for more low end but the 5.3 is still doing great.

Interesting info. I guess it's good then that I went with a forged crank upgrade when I did my build. I'm not pushing my combo that hard, and it's just a street car, but you're right, extra load is extra load.
