69 camaro twin turbo

Default 69 camaro twin turbo

Been looking at turbos for a twin setup for a mostly street driven 69 Camaro.The more I look and compare the more confused I get.Motor is built,it has forged rods and pistons,347 iron block,1/2 inch head studs,trickflow heads,cam has yet to be picked.4l80e,3600 stall.Trying to look at all the options for twins and pick the best for this Camaro.I would like to see 750-900rwh,I guess more is fine lol.Pump gas with methanol injection.I want to drive this on the street a lot,mabye a pass or two at test and tune.Looked at turbonetics,62's-67's,borgwarner s62's-s66's,persision 62's?what will work best on this?Any input?

Borg Warner S300's with 66mm compressor and 68mm turbine wheels. Very durable, cheap, and will support all the power that engine can handle.

That's one of the turbos that's at the top of my list.My only concern about them is the physical size and weight of them and possibly a little slow to spool?What do you think ls1 nova?

Any decent 58-62mm turbo will easily see those goals.

For lesser units or old cast wheels maybe a little larger might be needed. But given how cheap good units are now....really dont see any point using old stuff.

What people define as quick spooling is different to everyone. I think the S300s would work well.

What about the new borgwarner sx362's,62.9 and 68 on exaust.has the smaller coustom housing which makes it about the same size as persision or turbonetics.Billet wheel,it has the v bands for the exaust also.Rated at 700hp each,should spool fast and make big hp.various ar's available.I cant find s366's with a 68 wheel on the exaust they are all 76.

Does the 362 SXE not use the same larger housing as all the SXE units ?

The older 362FMW used a slightly smaller housing although it's still larger than Precision etc my 364's use the same housing
Although I think they're basically the same unit as the SXE anyway ? Compressor wheel is the same AFAIK, not 100% sure on turbine wheel although they are same dimensions.

The above units also have better bearing systems vs an old 366. To get any of the 366 etc or larger with the smaller 68mm turbine wheel it would need to be custom built. Doesnt really make much difference to price anyway

The ones I am looking at use a supercore with smaller aftermarket housings,with a v band.Close in size to a turbonetics 62.

Ahh right, havent seen those. Although it's mostly the compressor cover that's larger than some of the other units.

You can get turbine housings in almost any configuration for them

Although I did just bolt a new bigger A/R AGP turbine housing to mine and notice the shaft centreline of the turbo sits about 1/2" higher than it did with the BW turbine housing ( both have 3 5/8" V-band fitments on the rear )
