You basically took the S475 and then downgraded it.

Unless you're getting a JEGS discount, get off of their website lol.

That 71mm is the same thing as a 171702 75mm just with a smaller compressor.

Obviously both will work for the car. Obviously neither is the most efficient for a 346 with heads and cam... my question is... for the money, is one better than the other? I see different housings only and units for the housings I can buy... would that be easier to buy seperate to make one? Is the T6 171702 good enought to be considered a budget turbo? I am dealing with a retail store so I can't custom these part numbers with say a t4 or 83mm like some can.

Base $640 shipped S475 T6 is a great match for a 346 IMO. You are reading into it too much for your goals.

Are you refering to the 171702?

Im pretty sure the 171702 with the 96mm turbine is way too big...the compressor map doesn't look that great either...

I'm running the t4 s475/83 on my 150k mile Ls1, works great so far (low power). Car annihilated the TCI converter on like 8 psi so haven't been able to really crank on it. It was working extremely well for just a cam with 317 heads.
If I had to do it again I would go straight to the t6 flange. I don't want to have to do it over again when it comes time for a new motor!
With a few kinks removed I'll be curious to see where this "little" turbo takes the car in the future.

Now i'm looking at the Turbonetics 11535 "benita" because i'm so confused. I don't understand when guys are talking about a s475 T4/83mm for $6XX. Hopefully I will be able to get ahold of someone from Borg Warner.

Yes your base $650 t6 s475 is the 171702. If you dont understand why not call a company like forced inductions or lil john motorsports hell even bullseye power. They are all borg dealers and will steer you in the right direction. Just because you call them doesnt mean you have to buy their product dude

Thats ridiculous. I've run the small S475 (83/74 Wheel) and the big 87/96 wheel in the same T4 housing (1.10 first then 1.25AR) then a T6 1.32 housing. The larger I went in housing size and exhaust wheel size the more power I made. Every time. Response was very similar across the board. (assuming you have the hotside setup correctly) Having tried them all I can tell you I'd never bother with anything less than a T6 or the 87/96 exh. wheel. on a Small block anything. The power made per pound of boost just isn't there with the smaller units... even on 4.8 and 5.3 liters. I'll take real world experience over a matchbot anyday.

I'd go to turbodaves.com to grab the $640 shipped T6 1/32 S475. Or VSracing to get the T6 1.32 billet S480 clone. Run a 2" hoside feeding both sides fo the scroll on stock manifolds. It will spool plenty fast and make 1000 crank hp turned up.

Im with forcefed i could care less about what the compressor map looks like. There are tons and tons of threads on here using pretty much every variation of the s400 line of turbos and they all work well on any size engine.

I would hate to pick there brain just to not buy the product from them... that doesn't seem fair... that's why I posted my questions on this forum. If they want to help me, I would think they would respond eventually to this thread.

Did you fab your own hotside? The reason I ask is what did you do with the large size downpipe? Am I reading the specs correctly seeing it at 5" vband??

Yes, I made my hotside.

You can buy an adapter from LJMS to neck it down to 3-4" or cut off the 5" flange and weld on a 4". That's what I did.
