Ok in other news.....she is up and running. All I can say is WOW!
It has a 9lb spring in it and car is a absolute animal for such low boost.....easy low 10 second power. Boost starts build g around 3200 and is full in by 4200ish (guessing havnt data logged yet) .
Thing is gonna be stupid when I turn it up.

Car runs well put probally 50 miles on it in self learn mode(holley) ,only issue i have is it surges at idle 400-500 rpms once warmed up and if im quick into the clutch coming to a stop it sometimes stalls but 1500 up it runs great.
I played with the idle settings with no luck. Anyone have a simular situation?2

ya it went from taking 8 years to redo to a everyday project....almost done!
I've had this car since I was 15(41 now) ...its pretty much a different car at this point.
So far car is what I ultimately wanted, handles well and goes like a raped ape

Wow....

Thats how id like to be able to roll! I especially liked the above comment on how "you didnt even had time to be mad at it" lol!!!!

Hey, you mention you're running the HP system? Im presently thorn between all the offerings available these days. I was waiting on the "Ultimate LS MPFI" kit from FiTech to come out (just finally released) as ive seen guys run as low as a flat nine with their old "TBI" kits and because they seem to be sooo easy to work with. Now this new version offers the possibility of choosing injector size and intake as well etc etc... But i like the versatility and customer service availability of it, plus the fact a lot of people seem to use it so its easy to get help from fellows with the Holley. I'm just unsure what from all the options it offers, i REALLY would benefit from, its just a basic grudge/ drag car. (5.3 ls/ultra glide/ strange shaft/fab9/s480 .96/1.32, LS9 cam)

The point we keep hearing the most about the HP is its lack of I/O's.... if you dont mind me asking, what have you got connected in yours? How do you like it so far? Is it your first injection kit of the like? Do you find it user friendly?

I read you use the Self learning, have you had to get it dyno tuned or if youve only self tuned so far? (Read whole thread but dont remember).

At any rate, car looks very nice and under hood is super sano!!! Im just starting to do my layout in mine LOL!! Im realizing how tight it really is finally.....

Keep us posted on the progress!!! It finally was just a minor set back, as now, you're gonna be able to have the fun for which you built it!!!

Hey, that makes me think of another point if i may ask, what gap openings did you put your new rings in at with the new forged pistons??

Lets get some time slips now!!!

Lead.
See my car build in my sig 4 more details!!

Did you bore or stroke the motor while it was apart?

To Answer Holley questions....i am by trade a car guy but don't have much programmable tuning experience. The Holley with just a little bit of reading anyone can use it. I is the most user friendly system on the market.
99% of the cars out there will be fine with just the HP .
My car has a electric fuel pump, 2nd boost activated pump, electric fans, 2 step ,and shift light all activated by by in and outputs.
I also have progressive meth injection(aem) that has been working great , I see no reason to waste a output on meth when so many already have built in maps/ progressive controllers.
The only way way I could see someone needing the dominator efi is if you want to run transmission controls(I have a t56) or maybe if you have a full blown high up drag car and you need to start controlling boost ramp rates or control.(lets be honest it takes a while 5 min to change a waste gate spring or turn a **** on a manual controller.

My first go at laptop tuning and I have to agree with the Holley being user friendly.

Did you get you idle issue worked out? I ended up at 13.8 on AFR at idle to get it smoothed out. There is step by step instructions on getting there you can download from Holley. It's called Holley step by step beginner tuning and it was very helpful.

I got the idle tuning 90% there much better, I talked to my engine builder(they have been doing a ton of Holley stuff for years ) anyway in a matter 3 min he told me what I gotta do in laymen terms...lol.
One thing I've noticed is on the Holley forums they tend to over complicate it.
Anyone that buys one of Holley' s efi setups do your self a favor spend 20min with someone familiar with tuning them and you will get that...."oh duh" feeling. Very easy but alot of little shortcuts to make it alot easier that they do not tell you in the basic set up/tuning directions.

And my idle was 14.0 now at 13.8....and I think it needs to be a touch more fat.
My builder told me some engines just want to be fatteothers....guess it holds true every engine is different

My engine was happy a little fatter at idle, and I had my learn/CL turned off until around 1600 RPM's, I man tuned below that. I tried the accel. enrichment controls, but had better luck tweaking the main fuel table.
Sounds like your car is going to be a blast to drive

I kept trying to lean mine out because everything I read said it should be lean........instead of just giving it what it wanted.

Setting the throttle blade where the IAC motor is around 10% at hot idle helped too. Just don't forget to re-do the TPS auto set after you move it

my IAC was bouncing around a bit but it seemed to be best in the 7-10%range ....like I said I still got a bit to go.. I'm gonna turn it up just a smidge for this weekend ....either to 10.5 or 12lbs still debating. Mostly concerned with traction but the car seem to hook surprisingly well for a pro tour set up.

Sorry to hear about the bent rod, but impressive how quickly you got it back up again. I'm curious what you are making for power. Excellent job, that finished engine bay is one of the nicest I have seen.
