Default Turbo hot pipe smoothing

I got my turbo hot side pipings neck extended and welded a T6 flange on it. My question is do I have to completely smooth out welds on the inside of the pipes where it's welded for the air flow? Will the bumps interfere with the turbo air flow going in? I am installing an s480 turbo. Pictures below.

I wouldn't do it for airflow, I'd do it for preventing those tiny bits of slag from breaking off and going through my turbo.

I've actually gotten rid of all the tiny pieces that could break off into the turbo. So you are saying other than that my air flow will be good and don't need smoothing for the Weld bumps?

How much power/boost you trying to run? Either way, I doubt that would be the difference if you ran into any kind of backpressure problem.

I don't see that being a problem. Id run it just like it is. Ive seen some sloppy welded turbo kits that looked like they would fall apart and make damn good power. Sloppy Mechanics comes to mind lol.

Bad welds make power until slag breaks off and gets jammed in the turbine.

With the s480 Billet I'm adding, 800-900

Why not smooth it out? Takes very little time. Takes about as much time as starting this thread and following up with it. I always die grind the inlets and outlets of exhaust plumbing, manifolds, turbo inlets and outlets, etc. Figured its worth the extra time considering the hundreds of hours already invested into the project.

tig and back purge prevents this. eating up a turbo will be an eye opener.

I agree, but not everyone has a tig, and especially setting up a backpurge. Granted, there is a sloppy way of doing it, but really my point is, not everyone has a tig, and just burn it up with a mig or stick.

I always smooth it out, as long as I am able too. I figure, I only have to build it once. (Hopefully). It's just something that would bug me, if I didn't do it. I would know it's in there. lol This is just me.

there is plenty of shops out there that charge a minimal price to burn pipes together. that's what ive done tacked it all together then brought it somewhere to have it all welded together the right way

I had always heard of these shops, but never found one. Now that I do turbo pipes as a side business, I'd never weld up something I didn't fit up.

not to say there isn't a place for stitching a hotside together with Flux core. Just turn the voltage and wire speed way down to you don't burn through. Maybe try a weld backer like solar Flux?

I'm one of those shops. I like helping local guys out. Most of my biz goes out the UPS truck so meeting the locals is fun for me. If you're ever down here in the Sutherlin/Roseburg area, let me know. Would be happy to have you stop in a shoot the breeze.

So is it just me or is the inner bolt holes going to be a huge leak?
