Default My 97 S10 at the track

Well, its race weekend. We are still getting a handle on everything but its getting pretty good. Most of you guys know the build. SBE 6.0 with an S482 bed mount turbo. Now, when building this truck I was worried about lag, not spooling enough boost either on the line or down track. Well I'm not too worried any longer. I am currently making 13.6psi at launch and 20psi at .5 seconds after launch and running 20 down track. We will turn it up a bit more today if the track holds it.

These videos were from last night during our test hits in Grudge races. We are racing today. Its the Dirty South No Prep series and I will be running in True Street. Some cars run mid 5's and a good car will run low to mid 6. We aren't getting time slips so no one knows what its actually running. I can tell you I ran a 6.48 leaving on 3.5psi and 14.5 down track. It made 700rwhp on the Dyno at 16psi.

So here are a couple videos of last night. We are hoping the track will continue to hold me at launch so we can keep hitting it hard and try to win this 5k. 1st hit was on baseline shock settings. Front jumped too fast so I firmed the front up a little. 2nd and 3rd hit was after the initial change. Caltracs are still at base settings as are the rear shocks. By looking at the video it moves to the left a little at the hit so this will get a Caltrac adjustment today to try and solve that.

Wow, that truck moves out! Sounds like the converter works very well in the videos. Glad to see you got it done and having good luck with it.

Thanks guys. Yea its been a lot of work getting to this point. I cant say enough about a couple members here. Forcefed has been great with advise during the build. And another gets huge props, Dave Yates. Im in Texas and he lives up north, like Wayyy up north. Hes been my tuner. Setting my phone on hotspot, he gets into my laptop and makes changes where needed after seeing the data logs of each run. He spent an hour or more just getting my idle setup. Has been available when Im at the track ect. Hes the reason it makes the power it does right now. Im learning by watching him work and its been great to have a tuner at the track with me.

As for the race yesterday. The track was super hot, up to 147 degrees. It was cooler when we were up but cars were having tractiin issues. So we pulled a little after launch timing for a second or so and I went in too quick which didnt let it get to full spool. Left of 8 instead of 13.5psi. So the 60ft was slow and I got beat. I also underestimated the Mustang I was running against.

So now its time to drop 300lbs and make some suspension upgrades. If thats not enough for mid to low 5 second pass then its mo-powa time. This true street class was a bit of a joke with the cars they let run it. They made the 20 mile cruise but they werent street legal and were lacking in keeping to the rules.

Thanks. Yea I need to do something to level out the launch, like a sway bar in the rear. Still messing with the setup.

As for times, I can give a little info. This being a no prep event we aren't allowed to get times or slips. On the last test weekend, which was the last Saturday, it went 6.48 with a 1.64 60ft time, left on 3psi and made 14 about 2 seconds after launch and held that for the full pass.
This weekend I left on 13.6 psi and was making 20psi 1/2 second after launch which held the entire pass. I am going to guess very high 5 to very low 6 second passes. Its the first time it ever felt fast to me.

At the dyno it made 700rwhp at 14psi. But we couldn't get the load we needed on it to build more.

I'm going to knock some weight out of the front end and work on harder launches and more psi after launch. I am thinking about 23psi max for this stock rod motor. So far I'm not running any safeties like Knock or AFR. We have been pretty careful in getting the power to this level. So far running it on C14 and no meth injection.

Inertia dyno so it cant load up a turbo correctly. Plus it did spin at max boost a little. Also it made 16 not 14 on the dyno.

Looks great out there! If you can get to a dyno again I wouldn't be afraid of the factory rods until you're around 1000whp. (you might already be there) 1200 crank or so is where the crank tends to flex. As long as the tune is good and you apply "big power" past 4800 or so the rods *should* be ok.

I think you are going about it correctly though trying to iron out the launch and get it lighter first though. Once you have it dialed in you can use the boost by RPM/boost by speed functions and bump it up to 25-26lbs easy IMO. My radials usually like to be hit really hard with a stiff front end.

Good luck!

Yea, Dave is looking at setting up the boost for closed loop which he said will make it easier to set and control. He also thinks I may be maxing out my fuel system. Hes looking at the logs. We also might hook up a boost button so I can run low 20psi and if Im behind, hit the button for another 10% duty which is about 3 to 5 psi. Just another water to test. Lol
