Default oil pressure issue....NEW UPDATE!

Whatsup guys, last night i did a few pulls and my normal hot oil pressure is about 40 and 50 crusing. all the sudden i noticed it was about 21 ish at idle and wouldnt go above 25ish. i also didnt go above 2k rpms on the way home cause i was concerned big time. ther is no motor noise...Motor has been together for about 1k miles or so? Maybe 1500 miles. Its a ly6 408 on e85 turbo car.

Oil is Joe gibbs ls30. Oil temp was a high of 240 but quickly cooled down.

I went and did a cold start this morning and its normally 70ish and it was 40 this morning. again no motor noise.

Any ides guys? Thanks.

UPDATE: So upon tearing the car down, I removed the trans from the motor and the shout to the PTC was a screw on...and it backed it self off the converter and was laying in the snout of the crank...WEll it was DEF the thrust bearing. the converter was practically punching the crank under throttle I'm assuming.

Dropped the motor off at the machine shop, said it heated up a main cap a little bit and hot spotted the crank but its still straight and true. MY question is now. the mains before were .020. with 5w/30. should be open them up to .025-028 with either 15w-50 or 20-50? Last question, I have no trans pump restrictor...should I get one installed while the trans is out now? Is it necessary?

The last pic was after 5 hours. lol

We recommend 20-50 conventional VR-1 on our builds. It will help the life of the motor. These high output motors don't love the thin oil. Also need to be changing much more often on E, You are diluting your oil at a high rate of speed.

My oil pressure will typically pick up about 10psi with an oil change after 1000-1500 miles or so on E85.

When you pull the motor, you will probably find an issue with the mains. If you can't get over 25 psi with an increase in rpm.... it's hurt. I run e85 as well, I seriously doubt that caused you to lose 20psi of oil pressure.

Or the relief valve was sticking.

Nobody can tell you what weight oil to run unless they built your motor and know the clearances. Putting in thicker oil might make your oil pressure gauge look better but that's not fixing problem.

Sounds like a main or rod bearing issue. sadly, I have a little experience with these recently...

Pull the oil filter and cut it open. DO NOT run the engine! If it is hurt you'll be sorry, a small issue can turn into a big issue very fast. What could be just bearings, can turn into new rods, crank etc....

At least that's what happened to me.

Well I hope the filter reveals no damage but as for oil I tried a few different kinds and landed on good ole Delo 15-40.
I tried AmsOil, VR-1 and Royal Purple and they all seemed to thin out quickly and required more frequent changes.
I bought some Delo 15-40 on sale at Costco and has been the best by far, pressure is the most stable, recovers from heat quickly and keeps it color the longest not to mention its cheaper than the aforementioned by far lol.

A friend of mine has a 408 similar to mine. his has higher compression and he runs mobil 1 15-50. never has an issue. he has a blower car though.

Wait..... that oil was in the car for 6 months??? If so, you should be changing it more often than that, turbos are murderous on oil.

It should be mostly water at this point.

Oil cooler FTW son!
I put a remote unit with its own fan on this past winter, it really helps.
I turn it on after I'm done beating the cars *** and it brings the pressure back up a little so it must be doing something.

put a thicker oil in it. summer time, turbo's are superheaters for oil literally turns to water. I run super tech 15w40 walmart oil in my motor. It's never in there long enough to matter. If you are worried about running super tech run Delvac 15w40 diesel oil

I had this exact same issue about a week ago. Made a pull and after I turned around noticed the oil pressure. Pretty much exactly like yours. Although mine would go over 25psi. Drained the oil and it was like water, cut open my filter and didn't notice anything. SBE 5.3 with a borg.

Stuck some Valvoline conventional 20-50 VR1 in it and pressure is back to normal. Although part of me still thinks its hurt lol.
