Default Questions.. Im a rookie

How is the PSI controlled with a belt driven blower?

Does reducing the pulley size help?

I have a 02 fbody and putting an f1r blower but don't know what pulleys to use or any of that.. ive always been NA or used the help of nitrous... FI is new to me..

thanks

How fast the pulley spins determines how much boost. So changing pulley size is how you would change boost. Smaller means more boost bigger means less boost. I'd do a lot more research and figure out more about an F1 blower before you invest in one. To start on a stock engine it likely won't be happy if its an LS1 and your trans and rear will get pissed off as well.

Thanks for the response.

the car is already built to handle the power.. forged 427 low compression with Darton sleeves, level 5 t56, dana s60 and so on.. its been a 408 nitrous car for some miles but spun a bearing so I went ahead and bought a f1r blower.

how do I know what size pulley to use for at least 20 psi?

Honest answer is you don't really know. You can describe your set up and someone can point you in the right direction and give you an approx, but no one will be able to say on your particular set up what it will bring. If you want a certain number you could always buy extra pulleys and swap if it doesn't bring enough power.

I mean I would assume you would want your build to be focused around a certain horsepower that would meet your goals for speed. Not just a random number that tells you your engines resistance to flow.

Typically the pully that comes on the blower is the "safe" size.
You assemble it and tune, then based on boost at a target RPM and the blower compressor sheet you increase RPM to hit your target boost/blower rpm.
You will end up with at least 1 spare pulley... Good vendors should be able to suggest a target ratio for your expected power band and engine build. IF they have sold enough to have the experience.

What PDX said a little more expanded. Bob at brutespeed is king at these prochargers. He will likely set you up right where you want to be as long as you know enough about the engine spec wise.

How high you spin the engine will also play into how much boost the pulley combo makes. Higher you spin the engine, the more its going to try to make.

I mean truly with having everything fully built and you wanting a metric **** ton of power (f1r at at least 20 psi) measure your crank pulley size and ask your cam guy where your cam will make peak power rpm wise. Then use those two numbers to calculate what size pulley at max rpm will give you max blower speed. One and done.

Thanks! To the OP, first of all, what blower bracket are you using? Bob

For an F-1R I'm not even sure if the above bracket will prevent belt slippage, but it is way better than the standard J bracket with the slide tensioner. Bob
