Default SCT carnage....(pics and video)

Ahh yes, with heavy anticipation the day has finally arrived SCT!! As the saying goes "spinning ain't winning", so I took steps to remedy that..... and MAN did it work. When i tried to leave the tree, there was absolutely no spinning whatsoever. However, it destroyed the rear yoke. With all this said, the few feet that it held....i believe if it would have stayed together, it was going to be a really good pass. I will not bring this car back till the rear end is swapped either for an 8.8 or a 9 inch. What's funny is, the rear is perfectly fine.....but still, I want to be able to launch without fear from now on.

I wonder why the yoke let go? Can't imagine that's a common weak point versus the rest of the pathetic 10-bolts we get on these cars.

Only thing I can imagine is a combination of the track prep, and the above average torque (even for a turbo car). Back to the track prep for a min, the track was so sticky... that when my man filming came to help get the car off the track... he lost a shoe. The track was VERY well prepped today. And also.... these yokes aren't exactly the beefiest of units.

Might want to have a look inside the transmission if the carnage was fairly violent. It's pretty common for a driveline failure to take out a trans too. I broke my th400 when my 12-bolt knocked the teeth off the ring gear and I also took out my last 4l60e when my 10-bolt popped.

Yup.... that crossed my mind on the way home. I really should have done a 4 clutch intermediate when I built it, but i really underestimated the car. So now that I probably wrecked the low roller clutch.... now's the time.

This is true, i was the 3rd car to break a rear end component in 30 minutes..... should have known not to trust that lane!! Just joking, could have been any lane..... just glad I wasn't in high gear when it happened. This is an example as to why driveshaft safety loops are a good idea.

so thinking down the road a bit, whats the next thing you will upgrade after you have a rear end under it that can handle your current power?

The tune. The car is gong to FLY on the current program. But after the 9 inch I'm going to have to recoup some of the lost power.

The way that looks, you might want to check and see if the rear end is rotating. It looks like it may have bound up. It doesn't look twisted off. What kind of suspension parts do you have. Heim joints hold everything in place the best with the least movement. Just sayin.

Damn man I was hoping you'd get at least one good pass in before you broke something, sorry to see this, no one likes being broken Like mentioned earlier take a good look at the trans, sounds like it revved up pretty good when the yoke broke.

Dang, was hoping for at least a couple passes easing it out before going for the gusto. Been there done that, except my pinion yoke snapped on the 9 inch.

It probably did move, basic suspension for now...along with the 9 inch install... that will change.

Yea, trans is likely hurt.... when I pull it to look at the roller clutch, it's getting a 4 clutch intermediate and will likely go ahead and put a billet forward drum in while I'm there.

I was so sick of babying the car and not seeing what it's really capable of, I got greedy and tried to leave with a little more steam than I probably should have. With that said, that was only about a 1psi launch....still didn't employ the brake.

Sorry to hear this. Sucks after all the work to kill it on the first pass. But as the weak links are eliminated the fun ratio will increase. If you're super worried about power losses in the 9", you could do the carrier that uses the 12 bolt ring and pinion. Or go beefed up 8.8 and be done with it. Sure would have liked to see one full pass! Next time!

The 1 positive in this is, I had AAA. Had I not have had it, the tow bill would have been roughly $450. This one breakdown more than covered the cost of the membership by 3x. Well worth it IMO.

X1000. Same here. AAA got me home when I broke. It's worth it's weight in gold when you get stuck. Plus you can help friends get towed or unlock a car if you leave the keys in it.
