I had a major set back. The paint on my cage came off all over when I removed my blue tape. Huge chunks came off so it has to be repainted and I have to remove everything again. Hopefully I can get the hydrodipped panels off without me9them up.
its all over the cage and all needs to be redone.

I wanted some options on it before I pursued a talk with the painter. It was a big kick in the balsa because I have to take everything a part again. It will be on hold a while because I cant do wiring or interior till it gets painted.
That sucks about the paint on cage. That's a lot work to redo and keep the surrounding areas paint and damage free. Painter needs fix it, it's all in prep. I've done many cages including my 25.2 that was just certified. These CM tubes are coated with oil when made, they need repeated cleaning with wax grease remover then scotchbrite then more wax grease remover...never had problem with aerosol cans or BC/CC jobs.

I have done the aerosol cans many times myself without issues. With the money going into the car I wanted a real painter to do the cage and tin so it would all match perfectly. Extremely disappointed. I think I have found someone else. The original painter is going to wait me out so he dont have to do it. I was scheduled for the full paint the second week of January. He said he is too busy now do do anything unless I can wait several months.
havent checked in on this build in a while ..other than the cage paint issue car is coming out pretty nice
Agreed, The paint is a bigger deal than most things. It might keep me from hitting the track this year. The painter pulled my spot I had been waiting on. So, I will have to find another and wait in line.

You would skip a year or racing because a car isn’t painted?
I don’t mean to sound critical but if I had a car as capable as yours will be paint wouldn’t be stopping me from enjoying it.

I have done it in the past. I dont to do all the wiring, etc rol its painted, also carpet needs to be put in. As well and interior etc. Tons of time to take everything out, and strip down to a bare chassis. Going to do it right the first time.
I had everything lined up just got shafted. Painters are the worst followed by chassis builders.
There are places that sell automotive paint that can put it in a spray can for you. Give em the paint code and it’ll match perfect (if that’s what you’re worried about). Might be an option. I’ve done it before, and you can’t tell a difference.

no paint code for the cage. It was a custom mix and he will mix me some but not give me the mix to take elsewhere. Can I take a quart from him and get it put in a can?

It depends what product he sprays. Find out if he shoots axalta or ppg or sherwin Williams. Then find your local Body Shop supplier and ask if they can put in an aerosol can as a base. Then you could go over it with a good quality clear (with catalyst) from a can.
if they can’t any automotive paint supplier worth their salt will have a paint scanner. They can use it to read the paint in several locations on the cage or another more easily detached body panel. Then match it with an easy to spray diy product.
