Default Recommendations for a mail order tune with turbos

Ok so my LSx 300zx is finally all done and we need to get a tune in it just to drive it around and break the motor/clutch in before actually adding lots of boost. My local tuner is just so busy it could be a month or more of waiting before he can get around to just doing a basic break-in tune. Its a 5.7 forged, 317 heads, custom cam, 160lb injectors, E85, Twin 61mm turbos with a T56.. I just want to get it broken in so we can then go back after some miles and start adding boost maybe up to 20lbs and see what it can put to the tires. Any guesses to what it should be able to do? And who might you guys recommend?

My point wasn't to make any power or even have boost on the motor. It was just to get it up and running for a break in period, nothing more. I guess I wasn't clear. AFTER the break in period, id actually put it on a dyno for a real full tune to add boost.

I understood what you meant.... you want to put a few miles on it before you go beat on it at the dyno.... and don’t want to make an appointment with tuner and have a bunch of little issues that a new build always has.... I would email sloppy and I’m sure he would send you something close so you can get some seat time

We do tons of turbo mail order tunes and DONT recommend one for your setup. With that big of an injector and E85 it will be super hard to get the fuel table correct on just a mail order tune. Even missing the fuel table by 5% will be huge on e85 with 160lb injectors.

If you had tuning software where you could log and make adjustments to the fuel table then it would be totally different.

Do you have hptuners? I could piece something together, but you need to take some logs and shoot them back over to me to refine it.

When your breaking an engine in, it is IMPERATIVE to have a good AFR. If you run rich, you can wash the cylinder walls down with fuel and never get the rings to seat properly.

Could probably break it in on standard pump fuel then? Aknovaman might be able to help. Not sure what his current work load is.

Wait or trailer it to someone who can fit you in.. Only safe way is live data.. You've got all the work time and $$ in to it,, Don't get in a hurry,, By the time most engines that I've played with were tuned ,, the motor was nicely broken it.. because the base tune was like 5 hours of dyno time at non race RPM's.. Consider that up until the water cooled Porsches came out they all were put on an engine dyno and run WAYYY beyond the dash redline, and those motors barring a couple of manufacturing bloopers lasted easily 200K.. A engine builder Ive worked with locally told me once that cold engines don't brake in "correctly" that you need to get the engine up to 70% rpm under a solid load and then cycle the rpm to set the rings best.. YMMV cause everybody has their own opinion...

If its a Holley system someone might get you close, then remote in and get it driveable-some charge $200 for a remote session.

I would recommend buying the software, and do it yourself. Don't know how? Read, and ask around. By the time you pay to have it done, you could have paid for the software.... which allows you to do future adjustments as well, which saves you money, and provides you with the satisfaction of knowing you did the work.

Pat G, Luis Sola are a couple of names that guys in Europe/UK use to tune theirs because most locals seem to be rather inept with factory software.
