Making a 69 Nova Great Again with turbo...
Found a very nicely cnc cut mild steel flange on ebay that is machined for 2.5 or whatever size pipe you want to use.... it will fit up nicely
I got much of the pipe laying around we can use for this. I can already see we are gonna have to lose the hood latch for the 3 inch core intercooler to fit.
What is the capacity of that pan?
I have the Mast pan and it basically holds 5.5 quarts. While my engine is out and apart, I’d consider that pan if it holds more oil.
Those drain positions are about where I put mine.
Ron
Maximum crankshaft stroke = 4.00" Sump Oil Capacity – 5.6 Quarts Total Oil Capacity with stock oil filter – 6.1 Quarts Oil Filter (AC Delco® PF48 or PF48E, Mobile M1-113, Wix 57060, K&N HP-1017, or equivalent) Requires use of LS3 dipstick (GM P/N 12669528) and tube (GM P/N 12625031)
My return is slightly lower than the 302-3's, I know at 4 qts is was running on the floor, lol, line not hooked up yet. 302-2 pan
I don't have a tig welder setup "yet" so it saved some $$ and time not having to have fittings welded on etc..
3 Window - I was just planning on using a NPT 1/2 inch barb fitting and budget rubber hose for the drain this time... as long as we can get the downward slope right don't think a 90 will be needed
This engine is pretty tight against the firewall... ALOT tighter than in my Nova. We are going to have to do some clearancing... I am trying to convince him to let me modify the crossmember so we can get this thing forward at least 1/2 to 1 inch.

also when I set the intake on the stock truck fuel rails are really close ...
in mock up it was obvious we will be cutting the flanges off and melding them with 2.25 or 2.5 pipe for the crossovers and eventual merge
scrap pipe collection I will be using

chop chop

passenger side had some big clearance issues so doing some cutting and melding

This will be blended all together for the passenger side crossover
this is all using stuff I had laying around
Driverside manifold

Passenger side manifold modified

not 100% happy with this side and may start over and route it below thermostat outlet etc so we have more room to work to the merge...
we leak tested everything and it was good to go
welds better on this one as there weren't any inconsistent areas to fill
4 inch ebay flex pipe that has the solid steel inside

coming along

Gonna run 2.5 inch expander from the flex joint and set turbo placement then make a nice merge from the passenger side somewhere into the 2.5 allowing for enough room to do wastegate too
Figured out the turbo placement to retain the inner fenders and welded it up

made the merge for the crossover

mocked up the rest of the hotside crossover... when finalized, I will weld in a 2.25 v band on the 45 degree bend before and coming into the merge piece

Gotta think about wastegate placement... maybe somewhere on the housing, maybe somewhere else

ugly but it will hold and make boost lol

Hotside is done

this will all get heat wrapped

intercooler mocked up and starting some cutting for the coldside to fit

The wiring harness will be here soon from PSI and I can get going on that.
The fuel system is about worked out as well

made this modification for the return

pure budget is a concern.... I think welding and doing a different than existing sump on here will cost more than just buying a 100.00 fuel cell that is already sumped... Car owner doesn't want to lose existing tank though.
So what do yall think?
Same mod as I did to my tank, but instead mod a 5th gen hat to house two 450 pumps with a hobs switch.
